A 10-year-old boy went viral this week after speaking out in opposition to a continued face mask requirement in his Florida school district. “Wearing the masks all day makes me really tired,” the young boy, who identified himself as a fourth grader and was referred to as John, said to an emergency school board meeting in Martin County, Florida, last week. “Sometimes, I miss school and have to lay down in the dark till they’re gone,” the boy said, adding that the masks can be sweaty, claustrophobic, and anxiety-inducing. This 10 year-old boy just obliterated his school board’s mask mandate and calls out its unfairness and hypocrisy. You’re going to want to watch this one… pic.twitter.com/8y7SwNOLot— Benny (@bennyjohnson) May 18, 2021 John said he expected school to be different this past year but didn’t expect the new rules to last the entire year. This pooch suffers from preparation anxiety. An enterprising pup has devised an ingenious, new coronavirus pandemic skill during lockdown — convincing her owner to serve her dinner several hours early. A thread showcasing her adorable bargaining tactics has amassed more than 65,000 likes on Twitter. “During quarantine, my dog has used a combination of intense sitting and adorable staring to bargain her dinner time down from 5 to 330,” tweeted Tommy Vietor. “It’s now 2:50…hold the line, Tommy. Hold the line.” An accompanying pic shows the persuasive pup-licant sitting while flashing the camera her best woeful “Bambi” eyes. Unfortunately, the paws-car-worthy performance was apparently not enough, as minutes later, he posted a photo of his pet placing a pleading paw on her owner’s foot. “Things have escalated,” Vietor tweeted. Begging for her supper is not the pup’s only quarantine talent. He explained in a subsequent post that she’s also “learned that inching over and lying down on my head at around 530am is a good way to get breakfast early.” Needless to say, the canine’s...

KARACHI, Pakistan – Lawyer Nisha Rao maneuvers among the throng of black-coated attorneys clustered near Karachi’s city courts searching for her client. But Rao, 28, is not just another lawyer running for a meeting. As Pakistan’s first transgender lawyer, she has carved a path from the streets to the courtroom and her example is inspiring other transgender people in the conservative Islamic Republic. “I am proud to have become Pakistan first transgender lawyer”, Rao told Reuters. Life is hard for transgender persons in Pakistan, where the Supreme Court only allowed them to claim a third gender on their national identity cards in 2009. The parliament just passed a law in 2018 recognizing transgender people as equal citizen and protecting them from discrimination and violence. JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) — It had been four days as of Thursday, and more than 93,000 customers were still without power. As CBS 2’s Marissa Parra reported, some got so frustrated with the situation that they took matters into their own hands – including one senior in Joliet who put his desperation on a sign. “They told us Saturday, so somebody had to do something,” said Don Raub, who lives at Social Senior Living in Joliet. Raub had been living for days without power. Generators allowed air conditioning and lights to work in the hallways, but nowhere else. “I said to myself, ‘We’ve got to have help,’” Raub said. “Oh, was it hot.” “Very hot, yep,” said Yosanne Winston, executive director of Solstice. “With the power out, the elevators obviously don’t work, and we’ve been shuttling food up three flights of stairs.” Raub, 75, took matters into his own hands by scribbling his plea to ComEd. He put a sign on a cardboard box with Solstice’s address, reading, “ComEd, 901 Essington Rd., help us please.” He then took his wheelchair...
A University of Georgia student has proven that there are much more outlandish excuses for missing work or bad grades than 'my dog ate my homework' — but just because something seems strange doesn't mean it's not true. Sam Lee, a 20-year-old junior at the school, recently failed an online test because — she claims — a meatball fell out of her sandwich and onto her computer keyboard, logging her out of the exam. Luckily, Sam's professor was sympathetic and allowed her to retake the test, thanks in part to Sam's thorough documentation of her sandwich snafu. Whoops! The meatball submitted the test as finished, even though it wasn't, and she got a failing grade Sam was taking a test for her economics class this month while eating a meatball sub — but before she was done answering the questions, one of the meatballs fell out of the sandwich, hitting the...
