Alan Eugene Miller says the state lost the paperwork he turned in selecting the alternate execution method of Nitrogen hypoxia Alabama could be ready to use a new, untried execution method called nitrogen hypoxia to carry out a death sentence later this month, a state attorney told a federal judge on Monday. James Houts, a deputy state attorney general, told U.S. District Judge R. Austin Huffaker Jr. that it is 'very likely' the method will be available for the execution of Alan Eugene Miller, currently set for September 22 by lethal injection. The final decision on whether to use the new method is up to Corrections Commissioner John Hamm, he said, and litigation is likely. While lethal injection is Alabama's primary execution method, the state in 2018 approved an untried method, nitrogen hypoxia, as an alternative amid mounting questions over lethal injection.  State law gave inmates a brief window of time in which to designate hypoxia it as their preferred execution method.  In a federal lawsuit filed last month attorneys argued Miller turned in a form selecting nitrogen, but the...
Students are led to their classroom by a teacher at Yung Wing School P.S. 124 on March 07, 2022, in New York City. The Latino civil rights organization that helped secure the historic 1982 Supreme Court victory guaranteeing a public school education for all children regardless of immigration status on Thursday condemned Greg Abbott “as one of our most irresponsible and desperate politicians.” The right-wing Texas governor, invigorated by the Supreme Court’s draft forced birth decision, has threatened to challenge the Plyler v. Doe decision. Justices from 1982’s decision “recognized the folly in excluding certain kids from school,” Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) President Thomas A. Saenz said in a statement received by Daily Kos. “Abbott now seeks to inflict by intention the harms that nine justices agreed should be avoided 40 years ago.” Yes, this fits in with the GOP’s overall goal to decimate all public school education. But it's also undeniably part of Texas’ effort to use the courts to make life for immigrants as hellish as possible. Stephen Miller, a former senior adviser to former President Donald Trump, said Friday that the notion of compensating illegal immigrant families with $450,000 for the trauma of being separated at the southern order is “insane.” The Biden administration is reportedly contemplating $450,000 in compensation for illegal immigrant families who found themselves separated at the southern border under Trump. “Well, first of all, that’s insane,” Miller said. “Secondly, this issue is widely misunderstood. You’re talking about individuals who commit a federal crime who were criminally prosecuted and who, during the pendency of their incarceration, were separated from their families. There are literally millions …. of American citizens who have been criminally prosecuted and separated from their families.”  (RELATED: Gov. Abbott Says Texas Is Fighting Back Against Biden Over ‘Open Door Policies’) Miller noted that Vice President Kamala Harris in her former role as a prosecutor “presided over many low level drug offense prosecutions. There are thousands and thousands of families living in her home state of California who were separated not for days but more months or years for drug...
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Being the top 2-year-old trotter has not been a ticket to winning the Hambletonian the following year. Over the last 12 years, Pinkman was the only Dan Patch Award winner to take 2-year-old honors and follow that up by capturing trotting’s most prestigious event. That was 2015. Venerate will try to beat the odds Saturday when the Julie Miller-trainer colt takes on nine rivals in the $1 million Hambletonian at the Meadowlands. Trainer Ake Svanstedt comes into the race with the two favorites in Captain Corey and Delayed Hanover. Both won their eliminations impressively last weekend. Venerate finished third behind Captain Corey and the Nancy Takter-trained Really Fast, who is the fourth choice at 5-1. “I couldn’t be happier with my horse,” Miller said Friday of her 8-1 shot. “He’s had a good week. Knock on wood, he’s been healthy, feeling good, jogging super. You can’t ask for anything more going into a big race than having confidence in your horse and driver.” Andy Miller, Julie’s husband, is the driver. They drew post No. 8,...

On Thursday night, Stephen Miller said that when Joe Biden was sworn in as president on January 20th, everything in the country was just hunky dory thanks to former President Donald Trump. The former advisor to Trump did not offer an explanation as to why seven million more Americans would vote for Biden than Trump despite this idyllic state of affairs, but he did say that among presidents, Biden was on easy street beginning on his first day: No president in history has been dealt a better hand on day one than President Biden. Think about what President Trump left him and what it’s become. He left him a Middle East that was at the dawn of a new peace, the most secure border in American history, energy abundance – and we had more energy than we knew what to do with. We had an economy that was primed to roar. We had a viable path towards a peace in Afghanistan. All of this and more was left at the doorstep for Joe Biden. And what do we have? You have...

"It's not really a barrier to being staffed. ... It's really more about people building confidence to go back to work," he added. Getty: "People rally in Little Tokyo to oppose a Trump administration plan to use Fort Sill Army base in Oklahoma as a detention center for immigrant children and other Customs Enforcement detainees outside the Japanese American National Museum, in Los Angeles, California on June 9, 2019." Apparently not satisfied enough with strong-arming the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) into supporting Stephen Miller’s order that uses the novel coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to shut down asylum at the southern border, the Trump administration has also been trying to force the CDC into endorse its unlawful policy detaining asylum-seeking children in hotels, The Washington Post reports. While a federal judge last month ordered a stop to the administration’s despicable practice of detaining kids at hotels while it seeks to quickly expel them from the country, officials tell The Post that the administration has been pressuring career officials at the CDC to sign an order supporting the practice in an attempt to justify it to the court. So far, officials have declined. But it doesn’t mean it’ll stay that way—just look at the recent history. Phonebanking is hard work,...
Donald Trump's senior campaign adviser said Sunday that the president is ready to lead the response against COVID-19 because he understands what people have gone through while battling the virus.  In an interview with CNN, Jason Miller said that protocols at upcoming rallies won't change as Trump looks to build momentum and 'beat [COVID-19] as a country' in the weeks leading up to the November 3 election.  Miller said: 'Importantly, when I was talking with the president just about 15 or 20 minutes ago, he said another thing that I found very telling. He said, “I know what it’s like to go through this. We’re going to beat this as a country. When I get out of here we’re going to be talking a lot about COVID and how we go and beat it as a country."' Far-right Republican activist Jason Miller, who became an informal adviser to President Donald Trump in 2017 and is now a senior adviser for his reelection campaign, has been involved in a bitter child support battle. And HuffPost is reporting that if Miller is shown to have more income than he has indicated, it could increase the amount of child support he is required to pay. Miller, according to HuffPost’s senior White House correspondent S.V. Date, “has not once appeared in the 2020 campaign’s filings on its expenses with the Federal Election Commission.” Date notes, “Also absent from the filings is Miller’s firm, SHW Partners LLC, for which he describes himself as a ‘principal.’” The former lover who has been suing Miller over child support payments is Miami resident A.J. Delgado. Miller lives in Virginia with his wife and daughters, while Delgado lives with Miller’s son. Delgado has alleged that Trump’s campaign is trying to help Miller “skirt obligations as much as possible, as his income is directly relevant not only to child support and child support arrears he owes our...
The city has been looking a whole lot rosier in these dark days — and it’s all thanks to Lewis Miller. The Chelsea florist — who’s been hailed as a botanical Banksy — has been sneaking around Manhattan and Brooklyn making the sidewalks unexpectedly bloom. Miller, who first started his now-infamous Flower Flashes nearly four years ago, in October 2016, leaves fanciful, over-the-top floral arrangements in public spots around the city — adorning Central Park benches and statues, springing up in front of museums like the Whitney, and even sprouting out of trashcans in 4-foot-tall bouquets. Now, in the wake of the coronavirus that’s left the city at a near standstill and left Miller’s usually full dance card completely empty, the 46-year-old floral designer has been determined not to wilt under the weight of the pandemic. Instead, the founder of his namesake floral company, which specializes in event design, put the petal to the metal and created installations that are as heartfelt as they are gorgeous. On Tuesday, a flower bomb went off in NYC: Miller and his team festooned...
