Su Teatro launched “Drama versus Trauma” to explore generational trauma in the Chicano community. Realizing their stage work triggered repressed memories, Executive Artistic Director Tony Garcia said audiences were hungry to share their own stories. “It was an opportunity for us to heal, to talk things through. CHICAGO (CBS) — Some local school districts went remote-only Wednesday in anticipation of the winter storm that clobbered the area – but the Chicago Public Schools did not. As CBS 2 Political Investigator Dana Kozlov reported Wednesday, the reason is because CPS can’t just flip the switch to remote learning on a dime. That goes even for days like Wednesday with heavy snow – where getting to and from school posed many challenges. SAN JOSE — The father of a brother and sister who were hit and killed by a driver fleeing from a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputy has filed a legal claim against the county, alleging the deputy engaged in an improper pursuit that failed to signal the victims to the approaching danger. A Houston woman was sentenced Tuesday to 40 months in federal prison for calling 911 with a fake story about her neighbors — who were then killed by the police who stormed their house. The sentencing of Patricia Ann Garcia is the first in a wide-ranging scandal in which two Houston police officers have been charged with murder. Garcia, 54, had long been feuding with her neighbors Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas when she called 911 on Jan. 8, 2019, to report that her daughter “Melissa” was being held in their home, and that they were drug dealers who had guns. Garcia actually had no daughter. Her 911 calls set in motion an investigation that resulted in the police entering the neighbors’ home three weeks later on a no-knock warrant. Tuttle, 59, and Nicholas, 58, were shot to death, as was their dog. Five officers were wounded during the raid, with one of them left paralyzed. No drugs were found in the house. OAKLAND — An Oakland man convicted of a brutal kidnapping, beating, and murder that was the culmination of a feud between him and his victim was sent to prison for life with no possibility of parole, though he maintained his innocence at his December sentencing hearing. James Scott, 28, was transferred from Santa Rita Jail to North Kern State Prison on March 9, according to prison records. He was convicted of kidnapping and murder in the death of 24-year-old Reynaldo Vazquez, who was buying cigarettes on Sept. 30, 2015, when a group of people forced him into the trunk of a car, beat him, then shot him in the head. Prosecutors named Scott as the shooter 26-year-old Alejandro Garcia as a major accomplice. The other four took plea deals in exchange for cooperation at Garcia and Scott’s trial. New York : With the arrival of Joan Laporta to the presidency of Barcelona, it is expected a new sports project for the team to put him back to compete in all the competitions that the club plays, especially after the consecutive failures of Barcelona in the last Champions League campaigns. This implies the arrival of new players to reinforce the team lines that need a quality leap. In this sense, Laporta already has his four favorites whom he will bet on signing for the next campaign. Despite the fact that the economic situation of the culé team is not very good at the moment, Laporta would make a great effort to bring in poster players to restore the competitive spirit that the team seems to have lost. Eric Garcia Perhaps the clearest and safest signing that Barcelona will make. The Catalan central Manchester City has already confirmed that he does not want to renew with the citizen team, and has acknowledged that he wants to return to the club that made him grow; the Barcelona. (CNN)The city of Long Beach, California, is working to rebuild a symbol of LGBTQ inclusion after it was destroyed in a fire that officials believe was an act of hate. The Long Beach Fire Department says the city's Pride lifeguard tower was "fully engulfed" in flames early Tuesday morning. The tower has been a "symbol of our strong support for the diversity within our ranks & community" since it was painted during Pride month in 2020 by the Marine Safety Division, the LBFD says. Long Beach Marine Safety Division painted LGBTQ Pride tower in June 2020."I was pretty emotional with what had happened," Jeremy Rocha, a lifeguard who helped paint the tower, told CNN affiliate KCBS/KCAL. "I just couldn't really fathom the fact that it had burned."While the department says the cause of the fire is under investigation, Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia has "little doubt this was an act of hate." Garcia is one of several city leaders that believe the fire was intentional. "These towers are made from fiberglass and have no power or gas capabilities," Councilwoman Cindy Allen...

BY NICK FERRARO, St. Paul Pioneer Press SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — As South St. Paul moved on from the stockyard and meatpacking era that put the city on the map, building after building disappeared from the landscape. However, two brick and limestone gatehouses that served as the entrance to the sprawling Armour & Co. meatpacking campus have remained intact, representing the lone vestige of what was once the world’s largest and most modern meatpacking plant and the city’s former way of life. But the future of the monuments could be in jeopardy. A commercial developer is interested in buying the city-owned land where the 20-foot-tall structures have stood for more than a century and constructing a 45,000-square-foot office-warehouse building, subdivided as eight condominiums for sale to small businesses. The location of the structures, which front Armour Avenue in the BridgePoint Business Park, and the triangle shape of the 4-acre site make the planned project undoable without moving them, said Ryan Garcia, the city’s economic and community development director. A developer has targeted a nearly 4-acre site owned by...
Boxing fans have often accused the organizers of stacking up the big fights without staging them, and Mike Tyson has recently given his opinion on that. Hailing from the old-era, Tyson faced some of the best heavyweights on his road to glory. However, the same doesn’t happen quite often in the modern-day circuit. In his recent podcast alongside WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney and his father Bill Haney, Tyson discussed the current situation to pose his disapproval towards fighters ducking their nearing challengers. According to Mike Tyson, boxers should be stripped of their titles if they are unwilling to fight. Meanwhile, Bill Haney blamed boxing organizations. Speaking on it, the veteran trainer said, “I think that goes back to the organizations who have loyalty, certain loyalties or certain biases towards certain fighters and allow them. But then again, social media and platforms like you, you have here and voices like zap, he knows that stripping sh*** and not giving the fighters.” Read More | Mike Tyson Lays Into Boxing Officials: ‘They Robbed Me’ Devin Haney explained how WBC...
