A fixture of the San Jose Earthquakes over the last decade won’t be back next year as midfielder Shea Salinas announced Wednesday that he is retiring at the conclusion of this season. Salinas, 36, has been a key piece of the Quakes’ team on the field over 13 seasons with the club: He’s San Jose’s all-time leader in assists (50), second only to longtime teammate Chris Wondolowski in games played (331) and third in minutes played (18,132). The midfielder first joined the Earthquakes in 2008, making 23 appearances for the team in his first two MLS seasons, before being drafted to the Philadelphia Union and Vancouver Whitecaps in successive expansion drafts. He returned to San Jose in 2011 via trade from Vancouver. “I am so grateful for the 15 years I got to play professional soccer,” Salinas said in a statement thanking the Quakes and their fans. “It was 15 more years than I had ever expected.” Related Articles San Jose Earthquakes | Photos: San Jose Earthquakes and L.A. Ohio’s State Board of Education on Tuesday heard public comment on a proposed resolution treating biological sex as an “objective, scientific fact” and opposing school policies that seek to blur the lines on this subject. Board member Brendan Shea (District 5) introduced the measure, which balks at regulations recently proposed by President Joe Biden. If finalized, the federal Department of Education rules would effectively force schools to call gender-dysphoric K-12 students by their preferred names and pronouns rather than their given names and biological pronouns. They would also require school athletic programs to assign children to teams based on avowed gender identity rather than physiological sex.  “Sex is not arbitrarily ‘assigned’ at birth but rather identifies an unchangeable fact,” the Shea resolution reads. “There are observable, quantifiable, and immutable differences between males and females. The reality of biological sex can no more be altered than can the reality that two plus two equals four.” In response to emerging federal policy, Shea’s policy instructs Ohio’s educational superintendent to inform all Ohio public school districts and institutions that the Ohio Department of...

Matt Olson’s trade to Atlanta in March signaled the beginning of the end. A teardown that’s become tradition in Oakland A’s-land had its biggest pillar fall. And every player making more than near-minimum salary knew they’d be next. Two days later, Matt Chapman was off to Toronto. Chris Bassitt had already been shipped to New York and Sean Manaea was soon to be reunited with Bob Melvin in San Diego. By July’s trade deadline, Frankie Montas was wearing Yankee pinstripes and the core that made three straight postseasons was scattered across the league. An A’s roster completely stripped to its foundation has lost 85 games this year. Dead years are a necessary evil in a teardown, even if those teardowns are rarely necessary. Olson noticed it all when the A’s visited Atlanta earlier this year. “It’s a lot of new faces, and I think there are certain parts of the situation like the fans and everything in Oakland that seem like a tough thing,” Olson told The San Francisco Chronicle. “I haven’t necessarily spoken to those guys exactly about it. But...
A Connecticut man was arrested for allegedly shooting one teen and then running over another one with his car. The incident took place in Hartford County around 9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1 in Manchester. According to Lt. Ryan Shea, of the Manchester Police Department, officers responded to a report of a 15-year-old who sustained a gunshot wound to his upper right arm after shots were fired around Dougherty Street and McKee Street.  Responding officers located the victim and learned that multiple shots were fired in the area of Dougherty Street. While officers were on scene at 16 McKee St., a pedestrian was reportedly struck by a vehicle in the area of 69 McKee St., Shea said. The 17-year-old who was struck by a vehicle sustained minor injuries and it was learned that the suspect in the shooting was the driver vehicle that struck the pedestrian, he added. The 15-year-old was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and is in stable condition, police said. Information gathered by investigators showed that the victim and a group of his friends were walking on Dougherty Street when they were approached...
Multiple residents, including several students, are displaced after a 2-alarm fire broke out at an apartment building in Boston and fire officials are using the incident to set an example.  Crews responded to the fire at a four-story building at 10-12 Glenville Avenue in Allston around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, Boston Fire said on Twitter.  Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke in the basement and first floor. The fire was quickly upgraded to a second-alarm, Boston Fire said. Thankfully, no one was hurt and officials confirmed the fire did start from the basement. The cause of the fire is under investigation.  The department is now using the incident to remind college students coming back into the city on proper fire safety protocols.  “It’s not a very good way to start out your academic career in higher education,” Boston Fire Marshal Joseph Shea said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Boston.com reports. Shea offered some statistics from Campus Firewatch saying that 86% of all college and university fire fatalities have happened at off-campus housing since January 2000.  "Five of the more...

Matt Shea told his radio program listeners Tuesday that two men arrested with Patriot Front didn't attend his church, despite having introduced one of them on stage there last December. The Christian nationalists and “Patriots” who turned out in force Saturday to protest the annual Pride celebration in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, have been scrambling to disavow any connection to the neofascist elements attracted by their cause—particularly the 31 members of Patriot Front who were arrested in a U-Haul van by Coeur d’Alene police near the park as the event drew to a close. And no one is trying harder to distance himself from them than former Washington legislator Matt Shea, who led a march past the event protesting the LGBTQ community, and whose right-hand man and security chief for his Spokane Valley-based On Fire Ministries, Matt Buster, happens to be the father of two the arrested men. At first, Shea tried to claim on Facebook that the detainees were actually all antifascists, calling it an “attempted ambush.” Then, two days later, he issued a statement throwing the Busters under the bus:...
The Los Angeles deputy district attorney has slammed his boss DA George Gascon as a cheerleader for criminals who encourages them to 'commit more crimes,' which has led to low office morale.  Shea Sanna claimed George Gascon, 68, is a criminal's 'champ' and neglects the need for 'public safety' and residents' feelings.  Sanna also said Gascon's policies make it hard for the DA's office to do their job, because 'as soon as we catch a perpetrator, we have to release them.'  When Gascon took office in 2020, he drastically changed prosecution rules, including getting rid of sentence enhancements for guns and gangs. The change also took place retroactively, leading to many criminals with life sentences being reduced significantly.  Californians have become fed up with Gascon's lax reform laws and the DA now faces a potential recall, as many officials warn he could be next after San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin's recall.  The recall comes as Gascon recently sentenced a juvenile, who hit and run a mother and her child, to only five to seven months in a probationary camp, which prosecutors...
NEW YORK (AP) — The trial of a Colorado businessman on charges that he ripped off thousands of donors who contributed $25 million to a campaign to build a wall along the southern U.S. border ended Tuesday in a mistrial after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. The mistrial in the prosecution of Timothy Shea was granted by U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres after the jury reported for a third time that it could not reach a verdict on any count, saying the deadlock was “abundantly clear.” They said extended deliberations had left them “further entrenched in our opposing views.” After previous notes, the judge urged them to try again. Shea was left to stand trial alone after Steve Bannon, a onetime adviser to then-President Donald Trump, was pardoned. And two other defendants pleaded guilty. The case was prosecuted in New York after it was determined that donors to the fund were from everywhere in the country, including New York. Charges against Shea were filed after questions arose over how donations were spent from a “We Build The Wall”...

By Larry Neumeister | Associated Press NEW YORK — A prosecutor told jurors in closing arguments at a criminal trial Tuesday that there is overwhelming evidence that organizers of a “We Build The Wall” campaign to raise millions of dollars for a wall along the U.S. southern border defrauded investors by lying to them. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Sobelman urged Manhattan federal court jurors to deliver guilty verdicts against the lone defendant: Timothy Shea. “You will quickly see that the evidence is overwhelming,” the prosecutor said as he delivered a rebuttal after defense attorney John Meringolo told the jury that an acquittal was the only fair verdict. NEW YORK (AP) — The organizers of a “We Build The Wall” campaign to raise money for a wall along the U.S. southern border lied to donors by saying all their money would fund the wall when they were actually pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars, a prosecutor told a jury at the start of a criminal trial Tuesday. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alison Moe directed the attention of jurors to defendant Timothy Shea, who sat alone facing charges after two other defendants recently pleaded guilty in the case and a fourth defendant, Steve Bannon, was pardoned by President Donald Trump hours before he completed his four-year term last year. She said Shea, of Castle Rock, Colorado, and his “partners in crime” beginning in December 2018 duped hundreds of thousands of people into believing that they would not pocket any money that was raised because 100% of donations went to building the wall. The prosecutor tried to narrow the focus of jurors by telling them that the prosecution “is not about whether there should be a wall” or whether money was...

A Fairfield County man died in a fiery single-vehicle car crash. It happened in Hartford County around 2:13 a.m., Sunday, May 15 in Manchester. Diyar Muhammad Hamad, age 24, of Shelton, was killed after Manchester Police responded to the area of Center and Fairview streets for a report of a crash with injuries, said Lt. OAKLAND — The Athletics are coming off a game in which they had a season-low two hits and scored just one run — the sixth time in 11 games they’ve had a single run or less. Going into Tuesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, they were desperate for an infusion of offense the night after drawing just 2,488 fans, their lowest non-pandemic crowd since 1980. Meanwhile, 559 miles away, their Triple-A team in Las Vegas has one of the hottest power hitters in the minor leagues. Which begs the question: Why has a team that has used 37 players, the second-most in the majors, not made a move to promote catcher Shea Langeliers? He’s hitting .316 for the Aviators and has a .422 on-base percentage and his OPS of 1.133 is off the charts. He has almost as many walks (13) as strikeouts (16)....
BOSTON (CBS) — You may have seen him before on the Boston Common or on social media. “I’ve been looking at TikTok videos and saw the one-dollar portrait guy,” said Adrian Wong of Boston. Asked what he’s often referred to, the artist explained, “the drawing man, one dollar portrait guy, dollar drawing of you- like that’s just my name I guess to some people.” His real name is Nick Shea, and the Dorchester artist has been coming to the Common almost every day since last summer. “I sit out here with just a pizza box and just a sharpie and some index cards. It’s really simple,” said Shea. Artist Nick Shea (WBZ-TV) With his limited supplies and advertising, he sits on a bench and creates portraits for strangers, for just $1. “I love it. I think it’s pretty good. It’s pretty accurate. He got my necklace too,” said Mimi Brown of Boston. “I always do my best. I do care about art and I’ve been drawing since I was a little kid,” said Shea. “He could probably upcharge but he’s...
A Connecticut man who was hit with a stun gun at a mall to keep him from fleeing from officers has been arrested after allegedly exposing himself at a nearby bus stop. The Hartford County incident took place in in Manchester around 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, April 12. Joseph Murrell, age 53, of Hartford, was arrested after police responded to a bus stop on Slater Street for an indecent exposure complaint, said Lt. Ryan Shea of the Manchester Police. Murrell was reported to have been exposing his genitals at the bus stop, Shea said. When officers arrived they learned Murrell had boarded a transit bus heading to the Shoppes at Buckland Hills, he added. Additional officers began to check the area of the mall and located Murrell lying on a bench outside of the Macy’s men’s store, Shea said. An officer attempted to speak to him and Murrell immediately fled on foot. When the officer attempted to detain him, he resisted and pulled away. Another officer in the area closed in on Murrell who continued to flee in the parking lot of the mall. A...
Norma Shea remembers a “wall of black” coming at her while she was sitting in the back seat of a Honda Civic waiting to make a left turn from Pacific Coast Highway onto Cherry Ave in Long Beach on Feb. 9. Then, shards of glass appeared to float by her face, as if in slow motion. The next thing she recalls was pleading with any “guardian angels” who might be listening for the safety of her baby. She was eight months pregnant. Most everything else for the next two months was a blur, Shea said. She was bedridden, continually in and out of surgery and separated from the baby, her first-born, Oriah. “The first time they let me go see her in the NICU she opened her eyes when I said her name,” Shea said Tuesday, April 12, the day after she was finally able to return home from the hospital. “But then, I was out of it for weeks.” Norma Shea was about eight months pregnant when she was injured in a crash in Long Beach,...
UPDATE: A police sergeant was justified in shooting a Morris Township man who pointed an airsoft gun at him during a domestic disturbance call, a state grand jury has ruled. Timothy O’Shea, 24, was bleeding from the neck and wrists when officers responding to a 911 call found him in the driveway of his Fairchild Avenue home on July 14, 2020, Acting New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said Tuesday, April 12. Several responding officers -- from the township, Morris Plains and Morristown – had gotten the older female caller to safety when they encountered O’Shea, the attorney general said. He was holding what looked like a genuine firearm, Platkin said. “Officer pleaded with Mr. O’Shea to drop the weapon, but he did not comply,” he said. “Mr. O’Shea raised the weapon and pointed it in the direction of Sgt. [Christopher] Cornine, who then fired 4 shots, striking Mr. O’Shea twice. “Officers rendered medical aid until EMS arrived. EMS transported Mr. O’Shea to Morristown Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 5:41 p.m. “The pistol that...
Former Washington legislator Matt Shea appeared on a Polish news program to defend his effort to rescue Ukrainian children from a Mariupol orphanage, accusing his critics of 'Russian style propaganda.' If there’s anything you can count on right-wing extremists for, it’s to try turn any human disaster into an ideological and moneymaking opportunity, and making everything much, much worse in the process. Thus, we have Matt Shea in Poland, trying to spirit his “prospective daughters” and 60 others from a Ukraine orphanage out of the country and into the waiting hands of … someone. Presumably what Shea calls “Christian Americans.” Shea, the ex-Republican legislator from Washington state who fantasizes about creating a breakaway “Christian” state, has been making a nuisance of himself in the Polish borderlands after leading a band of children from a Ukrainian orphanage over the border to safety and then pledging their adoptions—even though he is not working with or for any accredited adoption agency, nor are such international adoptions even possible amid the current turmoil. Along the way, he’s inadvertently shining a light on the creepy...

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A $20 to-go box filled with pancakes and sausage has been playing a part in saving the lives of Chicago police officers. The eighth annual "Get Behind the Vest" pancake breakfast, hosted by 19th ward Alderman Matt O'Shea, was held Sunday morning."Now more than ever, we really need to band together and let them when men and women know law enforcement, we got their back," O'Shea said. The event also helps build that connection between the community and Chicago's officers. That's a connection "Chicago Fire" actor David Eigenberg has long been a part of by showing up at the event each year."If humanity's about anything, it's about being together and working together and taking care of each other. And that's really what today is. You see a lot of beautiful hearts down here," Eigenberg said. The pandemic forced this event to once again be carry-out rather than the large sit-down style breakfast it usually is. Still, there's no lack of support. Roughly 3,000 people came by to grab a meal and support Chicago's officers."I have a friend who has a...
When the Atlanta Braves took Shea Langeliers on a whirlwind World Series run, they inadvertently helped the Philadelphia Phillies land their own prospect. With a much slower news cycle in a locked out offseason, MLB fans turn a microscope to prospective signings as teams survey the landscape for new talent to acquire. In that focus, Phillies insider Jim Salisbury noticed a remarkable connection between the Atlanta Braves and their bitter NL East rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies. Because the Braves went all the way to an unprecedented World Series victory, catcher Shea Langeliers stayed on with the Atlanta team for their championship run. And because Langeliers was with the Braves, Logan O’Hoppe stepped up to start as catcher. Initially, O’Hoppe was expected to sneak in reps when he could behind Langeliers. “He would get some at-bats as the designated hitter,” Salisbury described. “There was also some talk about him taking a few ground balls at first base.” O’Hoppe got to show off his game, featuring more prominently on the Phillies’ radar as one of their top prospects—all because Langeliers was...

"There's a young left-back called Paul Tierney who's doing well, as is Danny Pugh. MOST READ IN FOOTBALLTRAGIC...

However, those plans changed after Dorsey was promoted to OC in Buffalo. While the Giants are considering several candidates, one of the top names on the board is Browns pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach Chad O’Shea, who coached alongside Daboll for several seasons while the two were part of the New England Patriots organization.
