TIME and again I am asked about the best waterproof eyeliner. Here I put the latest launches to the test, seeing which stand the test of time . . . and if you really do get what you pay for. BEAUTY: with Tara Ledden 4The updated formula is as good as I remember and stays put all day at work once it has dried Budget - 17 Ink Legend tattoo eyeliner (£4.50, boots.com): I swore by 17 eyeliner as a teenager, so it is great to see this back on the shelves. The updated formula is as good as I remember and stays put all day at work once it has dried. If you open your eyes before it is set, however, it will get all over your lids – so some patience is required. Thin, paintbrush-style tips are my least favourite for eyeliner. I find them difficult to work with to get a steady thickness, plus they are prone to splitting. AS the summer weather hots up, heavy make-up that can run down your face is a no-no, so swap bulky mascara for naturally long eyelashes. Today we put eyelash serums to the test for you, and we find a concealer that’s worth raving about. 4This budget option is a decent affordable alternativeCredit: BEAUTY: with Tara Ledden BUDGET – Mavala Eye-Lite Double Lash, £14.87 for 10ml, johnlewis.com This clinical-looking serum comes with a soft, easy-to-apply bristle mascara wand brush, ensuring that each eyelash is evenly coated from root to tip. The Swiss brand uses the protein elastin, which encourages bounce in lashes and prevents breakage. The unscented product can also be used on eyebrows. It felt quite watery on my eyes and took a little while to dry. I applied it at night so it didn’t cause my eye make-up to run. I noticed a difference after a month and it especially helped with the smaller lashes in the corners of my eyes. The overall effect was quite fluffy. A decent, affordable alternative. 4This serum brought lasting results after...

A Russian banking millionaire under western sanctions has come out and criticised the war in Ukraine in an attack on Putin rarely seen in Russia’s financial circles. Oleg Tinkov, 52, who owns a Russian bank along with the world’s first private ice-breaking super yacht, was sanctioned after Putin gave the order to invade Ukraine. He took to Instagram on Tuesday to call the war ‘crazy’. He wrote on his Instagram account in Russian that the generals in the Russian army are ‘waking up with a hangover’ and releasing ‘they had a sh*tty army’. ‘And how will the army be good, if everything else in the country is sh*t and mired in nippotism [sic], servility and servility?’ he asked. Kremlin officials will be shocked that their children will not be able to go to the Mediterranean this summer, said Tinkov, who called on the west to ‘please give Mr. Putin a clear exit to save his face and stop this massacre’. ‘Of course there are morons who draw Z, but morons in any country are 10%. 90% of Russians are AGAINST...

Even with just 10,580 fans in the seats, Tuesday night’s Yankees-Astros game in the Bronx had the atmosphere of a playoff contest. Maybe it’s because we’ve been starved for “normalcy” at sporting events, but despite the small crowd, the boos were loud. For two years, animosity festered toward the Astros after Houston’s baseball team was outed for cheating against the Yankees and others in the 2017 postseason. With crowds prohibited from MLB games in 2020, Yankees fans were forced to wait an extra year. But Tuesday night, they were primed to give the Astros hell. Credit them for being heard, but while Yankees fans shined in making noise with jeers of ‘cheaters’ and ‘f*ck Altuve,’ they failed in creativity. Turning your backs to the field? I’m not sure what paying a premium to watch the game, and turning your back on the field proved to the Astros. Inflatable trash cans? As generic as throwing needles at Alex Rodriguez. The dude dressed as Oscar the Grouch? That one was pretty good. Adding to the unique scene...

Giant earth worms have started emerging from flood waters in large numbers as they try to escape the torrential rainfall currently lashing Queensland. The worms have been forced to seek shelter in rural properties, as south-east parts of the state have been hammered with nearly six months worth of rain in the last couple of days. A motel owner at Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast hinterland - which has received 550mm of rain in the past 48 hours - discovered a large worm under the door of a guest's room. Darren Jack said the heavy rain at the Tall Trees Motel had 'created havoc' for nearby wildlife, with other animals - including spiders - spotted climbing up the walls in recent days. Motel owner Darren Jack said the size of the earthworms hasn't shocked him after the continual recent rain in Queensland Mr Jack added the earth worm was 'comparatively small' compared to others he had found in the past - which can grow to as big as 2.5 metres. 'There's a massive, massive earthworm trying to get...

Fans of the celebrity ballroom competition question consecutive wins by ABC reality stars. Dancing with the Stars fans are reacting to the Season 29 finale which had Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Brisowe winning the mirrorball trophy with partner Artem Chigvintsev. On the live finale, Kaitlyn and Artem beat out fellow contenders Justina Machado and Sasha Farber, Nelly and Daniella Karagach, and frontrunners Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson for the glitzy DWTS trophy, but not all fans agreed with the win. On social media, some longtime viewers were upset over Kaitlyn’s ballroom triumph one year after Bachelorette star Hannah Brown won the top prize with partner Alan Bersten. Some accused producers of rigging the celebrity ballroom competition to favor stars from ABC. One critic even renamed the series Dancing with the Bachelorettes. “I have watched DWTS since it started,” one viewer tweeted. “The past couple of years when they started bringing Bachelorettes on as Stars has ruined the entire show! Last season and this season a Bachelorette won. That just proved without a doubt, the show is rigged!!” “Two Bachelorettes in a...
Expect to see more boarded-up windows in big cities. The wooden panels have become a regular site in Washington, New York City, and elsewhere ahead of election results coming in Tuesday night, particularly the marquee contest between President Trump and Democratic rival Joe Biden. Anti-Trump organizations have sent alerts to their followers over the past few days promoting massive protests regardless of who wins or loses the White House. Cities and urban businesses around the country are bracing themselves for what is expected to be a raucous night on Tuesday, fearing that Trump wins a second term. If that's the case, anti-Trump activist groups are expected to lash out violently against law enforcement and destroy private property, similar to Inauguration Day in 2017. The New York City Police Department circulated a memo warning, “This November 3rd will be the one of the most highly contested presidential elections in the modern era. There is also a strong likelihood that the winner of the presidential election may not be decided for several weeks." The memo added, “Accordingly, we should anticipate...

by Robert Romano  It is former Vice President Joe Biden, and not President Donald Trump, who has a political problem due to ongoing riots in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd as public backlash against the political left has begun seeping into public attitudes concerning the race for president in 2020. On July 28, as attention was focused on attempts by radical leftist mobs led by Antifa to burn a federal courthouse in Portland, Oreg. to the ground, Biden issued a weak statement unbelievably blaming President Donald Trump and federal law enforcement for the riots. Biden said, “They brutally attack peaceful protesters… Of course, the U.S. government has the right and the duty to protect federal property. The Obama-Biden administration has protected federal property across the country without resorting to these blatant tactics — and without trying to stoke the fires of division in this country.” But nobody’s buying it, as the American people are more likely to blame liberal Democratic city mayors for encouraging the violence with lax police presence. In interviews with CNN’s Jeff Zeleny, longtime Florida Republicans who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 admitted they have no intention of helping him stay in office when they vote in November. With polls showing the president trailing in the all-important Sunshine State, where seniors preferred Trump over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by 21 points last election, the president now finds himself bleeding support from a demographic he desperately needs if he wants to stay in the Oval Office after the first of the year. According to retired banker John Dudley, 77, he voted for Trump last election and the president promptly “blew it.” “We were so excited in the beginning. A businessman to run our country like a business and it hasn’t happened,” he explained while admitting he has voted Republican his entire life. “We’ve got to get a new guy. Our President is erratic,” he explained, adding, “All he’s succeeded in doing is juicing up the stock market. Now that’s gone to pot because of the coronavirus.” The retired banker’s comments were echoed by Marsha Lundh,...
