The Denver Broncos have officially sold to a group of Walmart heirs for a record price of $4.65 billion. That's not just an NFL record, but a sports record, eclipsing Steve Cohen's $2.4 billion purchase of the New York Mets and David Tepper's $2.3 billion acquisition of the Carolina Panthers. It even exceeds Todd Boehly's $5.12 billion acquisition of Chelsea FC because that figure includes investments in the London soccer club's stadium and donations to charities supported by outgoing owner, Roman Abramovich. In the end, the true sales price was close to $3 billion, according to multiple reports. The Walton Penner Ownership Group's bid was approved by unanimous vote of NFL owners at a meeting on Tuesday, according to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. But it's now looking to sell some of its real estate, reversing its prior stance. The retailer on Friday announced it terminated deal talks with The Vitamin Shoppe owner Franchise Group, confirming CNBC's reporting from Thursday evening. Instead, Kohl's said, it will continue to operate as a standalone public company. Kohl's for months has been pressured by activist firms including Macellum Advisors to consider a sale of the company, in large part to unlock the value tied up in Kohl's real estate. Macellum has argued that Kohl's should sell some of its real estate and lease it back as a way to unlock capital, particularly during tough times. Kohl's, however, has been resistant to so-called sale leaseback transactions, at least at such a large scale. The company did complete a small sale-leaseback deal earlier on in the Covid pandemic, according to Peter Boneparth, chair of Kohl's board. It recognized a...
DENVER BRONCOS are the subject of a record-breaking sale worth $4.65billion. The NFL franchise will be sold to the Walton-Penner family subject to approval by the league. 3Denver Broncos have agreed a sale worth a massive $4.65bnCredit: AP And the eye-watering sum is the highest ever paid for an American sports franchise. The Broncos will be brought from the Pat Bowlen Trust after the owner died in 2019 aged 75. The franchise was valued at $3.75bn by Forbes last year - the 10th highest NFL franchise valuation. But the sale price almost a billion dollars higher than that figure catapults them into the top 10 sports teams in the world. Dallas Cowboys are top on the Forbes list with a value of $5.7bn from the New York Yankees in second on $5.25bn. New York Knicks are third with a value of $5bn before Spanish soccer giants Barcelona on $4.76bn and Real...

Dan Campbell has been the Detroit Lions head coach for five games and he’s already been beaten down to tears. If Campbell’s already crying, imagine the emotions of the franchise’s loyal and lifelong fans who have enjoyed just one playoff victory in the Super Bowl era. The Lions nearly pulled off an improbable win against their division rival Minnesota Vikings Sunday. Trailing by 10 points with three minutes left in the game, the Lions scored 11 straight to take the lead. But the 37-seconds left on the clock was just enough for Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins to set his team up for a game-winning 54-yard field goal. Campbell was heartbroken by the devastating loss and he showed it during his postgame press conference, breaking down in tears. “When you see your players give all that they have, and you lose that way, it’s tough. Elijah Wood has revealed that Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson snuck in a dig at producer and now convicted sex criminal Harvey Weinstein.  To recap the drama, Weinstein initially owned the rights to the The Lord Of The Rings franchise through his production company Miramax, yet reportedly had creative differences with Jackson and his partner Fran Walsh. While Jackson wanted at least two Lord of the Rings films under Miramax, Weinstein wanted to cram all three plot lines of J.R.R. Tolkien’s trilogy into one film. Weinstein reportedly threatening to replace Jackson with Quentin Tarantino or Shakespeare in Love director John Madden, which prompted the filmmaker to ask if he could shop the franchise to other studios. Jackson and Walsh eventually landed a deal with New Line Cinema, as producer Bob Shaye was excited to create the full trilogy as they intended. Wood, who starred in the films as Frodo, discussed the franchise’s history on Monday’s edition of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert, also confirming that the dispute inspired Jackson to model an orc after Weinstein.
