A $650,000 donation from Donald Trump's political action committee will help pay for his and Melania Trump's portraits at the Smithsonian Institution. It's the first time in recent memory that a political organization has financed a former president's portrait for the museum. The paintings are usually paid for by private, individual donations.  But Trump's portrait will mostly be paid for by donations from his MAGA supporters, collected through his political arm. The July 14th 'charitable contribution' was listed in Trump's monthly Save America PAC filing to the Federal Election Commission.  The money will cover artists' and other fees associated with the Trumps' portraits at the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian spokeswoman Linda St. Thomas told The Washington Post.  She said there was another private donation of $100,000 to help with costs but declined to name the donor. 'Two artists have been commissioned, one for each portrait. The names will be released closer to the reveal of the paintings,' St. Thomas told Business Insider, which first reported the FEC filing. 'The creation of the portraits is underway. The timing of the artworks' reveal not...
ACU Chair Matt Schlapp raised eyebrows ahead of CPAC 2022 when he essentially disavowed part of the conference name, saying “we’re no longer conservatives” just before announcing they’d booked Democrat Tulsi Gabbard to speak. But one of his biggest name speakers contradicted that claim from the stage of CPAC on Saturday. Mark Levin emphasized that it’s the Conservative Political Action Conference, “not populist, not nationalist.” And he went further than that, even, blasting populism as essentially a different brand of Marxism that cuts God out of the picture. Populism is a major ideological force and nationalist a popular term in the GOP — or at least in how Donald Trump voters self-identify within the party — and defenses of both ideological points of view are commonplace on right-wing websites, in podcasts, and on social media. But when longtime conservative talk show host, pundit, and author Levin pushed back on the idea forcefully in remarks from the CPAC stage, he heard plenty of cheering, not boos, from the CPAC crowd. “I just want to say: CPAC. It’s called the Conservative Political...
A disturbing allegation against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg during the primary led a George Soros-backed political action committee, Color Of Change, to pull a half million dollars in funding from his campaign last spring, DailyMail.com can now reveal. 'Color of Change Political Action Committee ceased our independent expenditure on this electoral campaign after receiving this information,' a Color of Change source with firsthand knowledge of the situation told DailyMail.com. Color Of Change PAC, the political action committee of the nation's largest online racial justice group, received $1 million in May from billionaire philanthropist George Soros to support Bragg's progressive candidacy for district attorney, one of the biggest and most important races in the country. But following the allegation the group pulled back the $1million donation by half.                  BUCKHEAD, Georgia — Buckhead City Committee CEO Bill White announced Monday that his group has a new Political Action Committee (PAC), effective February 1. White announced the news at a fundraiser at Buckhead’s Bistro Niko restaurant. Monday night’s fundraiser had a sell-out crowd. Almost 300 people attended, White said. The event had a minimum ticket donation requirement of $250 per person. “We have $1 million pledged to that PAC once it is set up,” White told the audience. “It will do two things. It will support the intrepid elected officials who stand up to this corruption in Atlanta and give us the opportunity to simply vote.” Buckhead residents said last year that they wish to break off from the City of Atlanta and form their own law enforcement agency. This, after a dramatic increase in crime. Buckhead is an upscale commercial and residential district. White said Monday that the number of carjackings and shootings within the boundaries of Buckhead had risen, although he did not provide exact numbers. Vernon Jones, who attended Monday night’s event, told The Georgia...
Former Attorney General Eric Holder, who is now the chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, advocated for disclosing donors to political organizations but said his group is not revealing its donors anytime soon during a congressional hearing on Thursday. "I do think that there needs to be transparency with regard to who is making donations to political organizations, and that would be good for our democracy," Holder told the House Administration Subcommittee on Elections during Wednesday's hearing. LIBERAL DARK MONEY GROUP 1630 FUND'S ELECTION WISHLIST BOOSTED BY SWISS BILLIONAIRE "Will you disclose the donors to the National Democratic Redistricting Committee for the record today?" asked Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., ranking member of the House Committee on Administration. "Well, what we do is follow the law as it exists. I'm not going to unilaterally disarm. When Republicans will do the same thing, I will do that and we will certainly follow the law, but I stand for the disclosure obligations that are contained in the bills that are being considered before Congress," Holder responded. Holder's group can be traced to...
With hopes for a full business recovery in Brooklyn and all of  New York City,  the Brooklyn Eagle interviewed Gil Cygler, a small business owner and active Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce leader, who is now the executive director of a new political action committee called A Better New York for All. Brooklyn Eagle: What was the genesis behind the A Better New York for All PAC? Gil Cygler: It really was born out of months of discussions with small business owners and community leaders from across Brooklyn looking to have a voice in this year’s elections. It finally got to the point where we saw no one else was going to do it, so we set one up, and the response has been pretty overwhelming.

CHICAGO (CBS) — In the wake of the U.S. Capitol riot which took place last week, leaving five dead, Chicago-based Boeing said it won’t donate to political action committees. The move follows that of several corporations who’ve chosen to cut ties with President Donald Trump and his business interests. Trump has already been banned from social media sites including Facebook and Twitter for posting messages that many believe to be evidence of the president inciting the violence of January 6. Federal and local police arrested dozens of people in connection with the violence, which showed widespread vandalism throughout the U.S. Capitol. Boeing’s full statement: We continuously assess our political action committee contributions to ensure that Boeing supports those who reflect our company’s values. Boeing strongly condemns the violence, lawlessness and destruction that took place in the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Given the current environment, we are not making political contributions at this time. We will continue to carefully evaluate future contributions to ensure that we support those who not only support our company, but also uphold our country’s...
Jaime Harrison, who attracted a national spotlight in his challenge to Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.), will launch a political action committee on Tuesday to target historically Republican areas. Despite his loss, the Democrat's candidacy smashed fundraising records, which the organization, Dirt Road PAC, hopes to replicate, according to The Associated Press. The name of the PAC refers to an anecdote Harrison related during his campaign in which a rural voter who lives on a dirt road said he would continue to feel alienated from politics “until either a Democrat or a Republican paves my road.” This moment, Harrison told the AP, illustrated “the hardship that so many of us are suffering with across this state.” The PAC’s first priority, Harrison said, will be the two Senate runoffs in Georgia, where wins by Democratic candidates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff could result in an even split in the upper changer. Harrison told the AP he has already raised nearly half a million dollars for Warnock and Ossoff and plans to target Virginia’s 2021 state elections next. “The days of just swooping in every few...
President Trump has formed a new political action committee geared toward retaining power in the Republican Party and maintaining the large base of support he has across the country, despite his projected loss in the presidential election. "The president always planned to do this, win or lose, so he can support candidates and issues he cares about, such as combating voter fraud," Tim Murtaugh, spokesman for the Trump campaign, said in a statement. The new fundraising apparatus, called "Save America," was first reported by the New York Times. Get Breaking News Delivered to Your Inbox The president has already begun fundraising for his new PAC. On Tuesday morning, the Trump campaign began earmarking 60% of donations received on his campaign website to Mr. Trump's new Save America PAC, which was registered with the Federal Election Commission on Monday by Trump campaign treasurer Bradley Crate. The remaining 40% of every donation goes to the Republican National Committee. Even though the Trump campaign website and its fundraising emails explicitly solicit funds only for Mr. Trump's election defense fund, this fund only receives the...
Donald Trump is preparing to announce a new leadership political action committee as early as this week, officials said Monday, in a potential attempt for the president to retain power within the Republican Party even after leaving office. 'The president always planned to do this, win or lose, so he can support candidates and issues he cares about, such as combating voter fraud,' Trump campaign's Director of Communications Tim Murtaugh told The New York Times. Although Murtaugh says plans for the PAC have been in the works for some time now, the announcement will come just days after outlets have called the 2020 election for Joe Biden and Trump has refused to give into calls for him to concede to the former vice president. The formation of the new group is a sign that Trump realizes his legal attempts to overturn Biden's lead are unlikely to be successful and this action would certainly act as a way for him to hold onto control and influence within the GOP past his time in the White House. A so-called 'leadership PAC' is...
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – On the eve of the election, the Silicon Valley Organization announced Monday that it is dissolving its political action committee amid continuing fallout over a racist campaign ad. The business advocacy organization voted Monday to immediately dissolve the PAC in “a step toward restoring its 130 year reputation.” Last week, the organization was under fire from an attack ad against San Jose City Council candidate Jake Tonkel, alleging he supports defunding the police. In it, the ad featured a group of Black men in what appears to be a riot in South Africa accompanied by a graphic reading, “Do you really want to sign onto this?” After the ad was posted, three SVO board members resigned in protest. The group’s president and CEO Matt Mahood also resigned after leading the organization for nine years. “I am very sorry for the completely unacceptable image that was put up on our website earlier this week,” Mahood’s statement said in part. “That image and messaging DOES NOT represent who I am as a man, a father, a husband...

President Trump's former personal attorney and fixer has been offered a role at an unnamed political action committee to work as a consultant and make media appearances, his attorney said. In a letter to U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein this week, Cohen's attorney, Danya Perry, asked for approval. "Mr. Cohen has an employment offer from a political action committee to provide consulting services and media appearances," Perry wrote. “He has provided the offer letter and details to the [Residential Re-entry Center] and is awaiting its response.” Cohen is also at work on a book critical of Trump, which he hopes to discuss with his editor and publisher “as quickly as possible,” Perry said. He hopes to publish the book in advance of Election Day. Cohen, who Trump labeled a "rat," pleaded guilty to charges including fraud relating to hush-money payments made to Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal and for lying to Congress in 2018. He was returned to prison in July shortly after he revealed plans to publish the memoir, titled Disloyal: The True Story...
