Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports Love them or hate them, the Golden State Warriors are going to be much-watch basketball this season as they try to defend their title. These are not the same old Warriors. Yes, we’ve seen them come off a championship run before and yes, the heart of this team is still Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Steph Curry. But there is a budding youth movement on this team and several new faces with JaMychal Green and Donte DiVincenzo replacing Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II. Whether you’re rooting for them or against them, they play one of the most exciting brands of basketball and offer plenty of reasons to get excited for the 2022-23 season.3. Andrew Wiggins and Jordan PooleWiggins and Poole were the breakout stars of the Warriors championship season and there’s every reason to think they’re just getting started. It feels like Wiggins has been around forever but he’s still just 26 years old and last year was his first chance to player extended minutes with the rest of the Warriors big three completely...
Getty Kenneth Faried, who will be working out with the Golden State Warriors. The Golden State Warriors have had a relatively boring offseason. They lost Otto Porter Jr., Gary Payton II, and Nemanja Bjelica in free agency, but they acted swiftly to replace them, bringing in Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green. However, their roster still isn’t full. They still only have 13 players on the roster, and while there are a few guys on Exhibit 9 or Exhibit 10 deals, they could still stand to add another player or two. One of the spots is supposedly being held for Andre Iguodala, but if he decides to retire, they need to have options. Well, according to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic, they’re keeping some players on their radar. On September 6, the two writers reported that the Warriors are bringing in a group of veteran free agents for workouts. “The Golden State Warriors are bringing in several veteran free agents for workouts this week, including Ben McLemore, Elfrid Payton, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Kenneth Faried, league sources...

Getty Multiple members of the Golden State Warriors. The Golden State Warriors are winners. Fresh off of their fourth title in eight years, everything is pointing up for Golden State. Sure, they have some tricky financial decisions to make in the next year, but for right now, the Warriors are on top of the world. Stephen Curry finally won his first NBA Finals MVP, Klay Thompson returned from injury and picked up right where he left off, and Andrew Wiggins made his first All-Star game and went on to be the second-best player on a championship team (in the playoffs). But not everybody in Golden State is winning. They just wrapped up a fairly successful offseason that saw them add Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green to replace lost assets, but according to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, there was one big-time loser for Golden State this summer – Chris Chiozza. “The Warriors sent nine players into free agency this summer. Six have since secured new NBA contracts. Another, Andre Iguodala, has a deal with the Dubs waiting for...
SAN FRANCISCO — James Wiseman was a full participant in practice Wednesday, but Warriors fans will have to wait a little longer to see the former No. 2 overall pick in action. Wiseman won’t play in the California Classic this weekend at Chase Center as he continues to get reps after a knee injury sidelined him for the entire 2021-22 season. The goal is for him to play in the latter part of the Las Vegas portion of Summer League. Wiseman suffered a meniscus injury in April 2021 during a game in Houston and hasn’t played in NBA action since. The Warriors were initially hopeful he would return before last season, but that timeline was pushed back several times due to setbacks before he was ultimately shut down in March after swelling in his surgically repaired knee persisted following three G League games with the Santa Cruz Warriors. Since then, he’s progressed in his recovery, returning to some on-court activities. He’s recently been seen shooting jumpers ahead of the Warriors’ NBA Finals games. Jonathan Kuminga and Patrick...

Memphis' chances of staving off elimination are even tougher now.The Golden State Warriors put the Grizzlies on the brink of the offseason after they rallied late in Game 4 on Monday night to grab a 3-1 series lead as Memphis star Ja Morant sat out with a sore right knee.Morant is doubtful for the remainder of the postseason after an MRI and further evaluation revealed a bone bruise on his injured knee, the team announced Tuesday night. The NBA's Most Improved Player winner and All-Star guard had been averaging 38.3 points a game. The Warriors now head to Memphis needing one victory to advance to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2019 - when they lost in the NBA Finals before missing the last two postseasons.RELATED: Golden State Warriors steal emotional Game 4 win from Memphis Grizzlies without Steve KerrThat's been a long wait for a franchise that won three championships in the last decade."Wednesday is going to be the hardest one yet," Warriors guard Klay Thompson said. Ja Morant is unlikely to play in Game 4 of the Warriors’ playoff series with the Grizzlies, Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said Sunday. Morant suffered a knee injury in the Warriors’ Game 3 win Saturday night. He and Jenkins both highlighted a fourth-quarter play in which Golden State guard Jordan Poole grabbed Morant’s knee during a trap at half-court. Jenkins re-iterated his post-game statement that he and the Grizzlies believe Warriors’ guard Jordan Poole caused Morant’s knee injury when he grabbed and “yanked” it. “This injury is caused by that play,” Jenkins said on Sunday. Jenkins said Memphis general manager Zach Kleiman has been in communication with the NBA league office about the play. Morant made his feelings about the play clear, tweeting a video of the play with the caption “broke the code,” a reference to Steve Kerr’s comments in response to Dillon Brooks’ hard foul on Gary Payton II that caused him to break his elbow in Game 2. Echoing Jaren Jackson Jr.’s response to Morant’s injury after the Warriors’ Game 3 win, Grizzlies’ Tyus Jones said the...
SAN JOSE – The Sharks, with their own playoff hopes already erased, have had a few opportunities to play spoiler in recent weeks, only to come up short. They’ll never get a better opportunity to put a crimp in another team’s playoff aspirations than Sunday night when they face the rival Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena. Sharks winger Timo Meier, for one, can’t wait for that chance. Asked Saturday night about being named the Sharks’ Player of the Year for this season, Meier said, “the season’s still not finished, so I still want to do well in those last couple of games, especially tomorrow, you know, the biggest game of the year against Vegas. “We can maybe knock them out of the playoffs. We obviously have a rivalry against them, so we’ve got to play hard tomorrow and focus on those last couple of games.” The Golden Knights enter Sunday with 89 points, four back of the Dallas Stars for the second and final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Vegas (42-31-5) has one game in hand on the...

With 34 minutes on the clock and no real chances of note, Timothy Weah broke down Mexico's left and delivered an inch-perfect cross into the area. Pulisic had timed his run to perfection and met the cross on the penalty spot, with Mexico stopper Guillermo Ochoa poorly positioned at his near post. Sixth-year players and second chances. Richmond forward Grant Golden never envisioned such possibilities in March 2020 when the Spiders’ realistic hopes of making the NCAA Tournament abruptly ended because of the pandemic. Golden was among the Spiders players riding the down escalator at a Brooklyn hotel on their way to practice upon learning the Atlantic 10 tournament had been canceled. And he was on the team bus to the airport soon after when news of the NCAA Tournament being canceled broke, rendering Richmond’s 24-7 season essentially moot. Two years later, Golden and five other Richmond “Graduate Seniors” — two of them non-scholarship walk-ons — have finally made their way back. “There are certainly a lot of times where we could have felt sorry for ourselves and sort of quit and said, `You know, maybe this just isn’t it,‘” Golden said. “But the fact that nobody did, and everybody stuck with it and decided to come back just made it all that much better.” Seeded 12th in the Midwest Region, the Spiders (23-12) are coming off a four-wins-in-four-days-run to claim their...

Getty Moses Moody goes up for a layup attempt against the Detroit Pistons. Moses Moody has put in a lot of work — and plenty of travel — to earn his big chance with the Golden State Warriors. When the rookie finally got that chance and seized it, his reaction may come as a surprise to some. Moody has split time between Golden State and the team’s G League affiliate in Santa Cruz through most of his first season in the league, once even playing for both teams in the same day. A spate of injuries this week created an opening on Golden State’s roster and gave Moody the chance to snag some significant minutes this week, leading to a breakout game and a chance to slide into the regular rotation. SAN FRANCISCO — The opportunity is obvious. Everyone, including Jordan Poole, sees it. The Golden State Warriors won’t have Klay Thompson until at least December. Poole showed flashes of greatness in his sophomore season since the Warriors drafted him 28th overall, and his name is generating buzz early in training camp. “I think it’s a pretty well-known fact that Klay’s not going to be back when the season starts,” Poole said after practice Thursday. “I’m competitive like everyone else on the team. … I know what I’m capable of. Coming in your first year, it just takes some time. It’s as simple as that.” Poole might have been disregarded by some as another late-round bust after averaging an inefficient 8.8 points in 22.4 minutes per game as a rookie. But he carved out a role as a lightning bug off the bench late last season. Poole averaged 14.7 points in the Warriors’ final 36 games after being called up from their G-league affiliate in Santa Cruz. On May 14, he exploded for a career-high 38 against...

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders have attended many Vegas Golden Knights games and know how vibrant the local fanbase can be, as the four-year old franchise enjoys one of the most electric atmospheres in the NHL. Heading into their second season since relocating from Oakland, the Raiders are wired to create their own electricity when they host the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason opener on Aug. 14, and open the regular season at home on “Monday Night Football” against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 13. “The O-line went to a Golden Knights game together and just seeing that energy, seeing how hyped they were just to be in there, just to support the local team, I just can’t wait to see Allegiant Stadium opened up to the public and just hear the crowd,” guard Denzelle Good said Thursday after the second day of training camp. “That was a big factor for me in Oakland. NEW YORK (CBS SF/AP) — The Golden State Warriors did about as well as could be expected in the 2021 NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night, getting the number 7 and number 14 picks. The Warriors received pick No. 7 as part of a trade with Minnesota that brought Andrew Wiggins and two draft choices to the team in exchange for D’Angelo Russell, Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman. Golden State had only a 2.4% chance of its own pick being anything other than the No. 14 selection. Depending on how the NBA draft lottery ping-pong balls bounce, the Warriors on Tuesday will find out whether they have one or two picks in the top half of the draft that can be used to add a major talent. After losing in the second round of the play-in tournament and missing the playoffs by a game, Golden State’s own pick is slotted at No. 14, and has just a 2.4% chance of moving up into the top four of the draft. But for the Warriors, the drama surrounds Minnesota’s pick, currently slotted at No. 6. Because of the 2020 trade that sent D’Angelo Russell to the Timberwolves for Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors own a first-round pick from Minnesota, either a top-three protected pick this year or an unprotected pick next year. If the Timberwolves’ pick lands outside the top three — which has a 72.4% chance of happening — then the Warriors get the pick. If it ends up in the top three, the pick conveys next year. Warriors president and COO Rick Welts will represent...

CHELSEA striker Timo Werner's struggles in front of goal continued when he spurned a glorious chance to put his side into an early lead against Manchester City. If the Warriors appreciated the playoff implications of Tuesday night’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, they didn’t play like it. A win against the Mavericks could have earned Golden State a tie-breaker and pulled them a game closer to the Western Conference’s current No. 6 seed. Instead, they came out flat, dug a 33-point hole before halftime and lost 133-103 in disappointing fashion. In truth, this game was over after the first quarter, when the Warriors trailed 36-12. The next 36 minutes were a formality. On offense, Golden State had as hard a time making shots (39.8% shooting overall) as it did holding onto the ball (18 turnovers). Only Stephen Curry (27 points on 9 for 18 shooting) managed to score consistently in non-garbage time. On defense, Golden State had no answer for Mavericks star Luka Doncic — who needed just 28 minutes to tally 39 points, eight assists and six rebounds — and allowed Dallas to shoot 52.2% overall and 51.4% from 3-point range. Entering Tuesday, the 10th-place Warriors (31-31) trailed the sixth-place Mavericks (34-27)...
California has led the way in paid leave policies, including bonding time for adopted and foster children. The state also has a robust child care system in place. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the limitations and disparities of that child care system, which has opened the door to explore new policies and possibilities for creative solutions to provide work/home balance. One of the lawmakers leading the charge to find these solutions is State Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, a Bay Area Democrat who found herself on the assembly floor last year with her newborn baby in arms pushing for, among other things, child care reform. Can schools require teachers to get the COVID-19 vaccine? Probably, but most arent – yet. Floridas Republican governor accused of ‘playing politics’ with Covid vaccine Mark Jackson has not coached in the NBA since the Golden State Warriors fired him after the 2013-14 season. On the surface, you could argue that's surprising. Typically, a coach whose three-year tenure coincided with a long-pitiful franchise turning into a 50-win playoff team, who helped lay the defensive foundation upon which a dynasty was built, would be a hot commodity. But Jackson's Golden State run isn't remembered for the things he did right. It's remembered for the things he did wrong. © Provided by CBS Sports Over the years, the perception that Jackson couldn't get along with ownership or anyone in the Golden State front office, that he manipulatively corrupted his locker room, and that as an ordained minister, he forced his religious beliefs into places where they perhaps didn't always fit has taken a stronghold around the league.  Speaking on Rich Kleiman's "Boardroom: Out of Office" podcast, Jackson said he believes the...

And Origi failed to break the deadlock with his four attempts on goal, two of which were on target. Liverpool...
(CNN)In the name of "science and solidarity," the European Commission has secured over 2 billion doses of coronavirus vaccines for the bloc since June. Now, as European Union regulators edge closer to approving two of those vaccines, the commission is asking its 27 nations to get ready to work together to roll them out.If it all goes to plan, the EU's vaccine program could go down as one of the greatest achievements in the history of the European project. The EU has suffered a sustained battering in recent years, fueled by the UK's departure, a surge in nationalist parties, and Euroskeptic attitudes across the continent. And so far, the coronavirus crisis has only exacerbated existing tensions. Read MoreEarly in the pandemic, a messy bidding war for personal protective equipment raged between member states, before the commission established a joint procurement program to stop it.In July, the bloc spent days battling over the terms of a landmark €750bn (US $909bn) coronavirus recovery fund, a bailout scheme that links payouts with adherence to the rule-of-law and the upholding of democratic ideals, including an...
Getty As training camp officially began this week after being delayed by two positive COVID tests, the start of preseason is approaching for the Golden State Warriors. However, we may not get to see two key players on the court just yet. Star forward Draymond Green and No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman have missed the beginning of Golden State’s training camp including group practices. According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Twitter, Draymond Green and James Wiseman tested positive for the coronavirus at the start of camp. GettyAnother Hit to the Golden State WarriorsFor players to be able to return to the court, Green and Wiseman will need to be quarantined for 10 to 12 days and test negative two times per the league’s protocols. The two were ruled out for the first preseason game against the Sacramento Kings by head coach Steve Kerr. After ruling out both Green and Wiseman for the first preseason game Steve Kerr says it’s “very unlikely” that either will play in any of the preseason matchups per Drew...
The Warriors will have the No. 2 pick in Oct. 16’s NBA draft, providing them with their highest draft pick since 1995 and the means to add an exciting player with the talent to blossom into the team’s next star. After a season derailed by injuries, the Warriors aim to return to the playoffs next season after posting a league-worst 15-50 record last season. Drafting a player who can contribute immediately, but who still has the upside to develop into a future All-Star, is a priority. This is the ninth time the Warriors have dropped down in the draft in the 22 times they’ve been involved in the lottery since its inception in 1985. Previously, the Warriors had moved up in the draft three times, dropped down eight times and stayed the same 10 times. Entering Thursday night’s lottery, the Warriors had a 14% chance at the No. 1 pick, a 13.4% chance at the No. 2 pick, a 12.7% chance at the No. 3 pick, a 12% chance at the No. 4 pick and a 47.9% chance at the...
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — After five straight NBA Finals appearances, the Golden State Warriors find themselves entering NBA Draft Lottery Thursday with the best mathematical chance to win the rights to the top pick. A combination of the loss of star sixth man Andre Iguodala to the NBA salary cap, loss of All-Star Kevin Durant to free agency, the retirement of Shaun Livingston and injuries to All-Stars Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green sent the Warriors on a tumble from the NBA’s elite to the league cellar in the COVID-19 shortened season. Golden State joins the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves will equal odds of landing the top pick at 14 percent and the Warriors are guaranteed not to drop below the 5th pick. Tomorrow, #Timberwolves fans (again) put our sanity in the hands of the NBA gods (or conspirators)…………. https://t.co/BZqqFd6Lsb pic.twitter.com/eK5Wq7OTMK — Minnesota Sports Fan (@realmnsportsfan) August 20, 2020 Heading into Thursday night, Warriors GM Bob Myers said no matter where the lottery ping pong balls fall, Golden State should find a player to join what...
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Joseph DeAngelo’s victims are reveling in their chance to finally confront him in a courtroom, four decades after he committed 13 known murders and dozens of rapes that spanned much of California. Many said they thought their opportunity would never come as the former police officer known as the Golden State Killer seemingly vanished after each crime, confounding investigators until he was identified and arrested in 2018 by using a new form of DNA tracing. Among them were two sisters who took turns testifying Tuesday. Peggy was 15 when she was raped in 1976, and Sue was 16 when she was bound and gagged in another room. Neither gave their last names as they described the trauma that still haunts their otherwise successful lives. Sue said she was stunned when her sister told her of DeAngelo’s arrest. “After over four decades he was no longer a ghost, but a real living and breathing monster,” she said. ”After 42 years, there was finally a glimmer of justice.” “Finally the end of this trauma is here,” Peggy said....

The Giants won’t have Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora together to terrorize the quarterback. They won’t have the young Jason Pierre-Paul. They’ll never have another Lawrence Taylor. But never have they needed to go back to the future to honor their feared-but-faded pass-rush tradition more than now, when they suddenly find themselves with such a hole at cornerback opposite James Bradberry that they scrambled to sign journeyman Ross Cockrell off the scrap heap. They are lucky to have Junkyard Dog Markus Golden back. Golden’s 10-sack season a year ago meant nothing when the pandemic helped suppress the market for pass rushers at a time when he was free to shop his services after the Giants won their gambit by placing the unrestricted free-agent tender on him. It means plenty now. New defensive coordinator Patrick Graham will be entrusted with scheming a pass rush from a group that features Golden, Kyler Fackrell, Lorenzo Carter and Oshane Ximines … and let’s see if he can prove GM Dave Gettleman right that the juice is worth the squeeze with Leonard...

Cox/Getty Images) The Golden State Warriors are in a rare position — a dynasty one year removed from greatness at the top of the NBA Draft lottery The Warriors have a tough decision to make. With the NBA Draft Lottery less than a month away (Aug. 25), Golden State’s selection is at peak value. The Warriors, Cavaliers and Timberwolves all have a 14 percent chance at landing the top pick. With that level of uncertainty, the Dubs are taking a significant gamble waiting on the results of a few ping pong balls to help make their decision for them. This year’s showcase lacks the clear-cut No. 1 option — there is no Zion Williamson. However, the LaMelo Ball’s, Anthony Edwards’ and James Wiseman’s of the world have all emerged as intriguing prospects, perhaps a step ahead of the rest of their class in terms of raw potential and NBA-level athleticism. Without that big name at the top of the lottery, the trade potential for the No....
