Ousted CNN broadcaster Chris Cuomo applied to be a volunteer firefighter in his glitzy East Hampton neighbourhood, but later withdrew his application because he couldn't handle the time commitments.  The 51-year-old, who lives in the prestigious New York district renowned for its affluent residents, seemed 'eager' to be a part of the volunteer squad but 'baulked' at the time investment, according to sources cited by The Daily Beast. 'There are monthly meetings and drills and you have to meet a percentage of your calls,' East Hampton Fire Department Chief Duane Forrester told The Daily Beast's Confider newsletter.  'That's why we don't have many celebrities.' The former primetime news anchor was fired by CNN in December after he was caught advising scandal-plagued brother, ex-governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, through sexual misconduct allegations while clinging on to his spot as the network's top broadcaster.  In the months that followed, Cuomo was accused of trying to bring the network down with him by exposing an affair between former boss Jeff Zucker and his aide Allison Gollust, as well as launching a staggering $125million...
Getty Mo Bamba According to Chicago Sun-Times beat writer Joe Cowley, free-agent big man and former Nikola Vucevic teammate with the Orlando Magic, Mo Bamba badly wants to sign with the Chicago Bulls. Cowley tweeted on Thursday, June 30, just hours before free agency begins, Bamba “would be a Bull by tonight,” if it were up to him. As Cowley mentions in his tweet, there are other potential stumbling blocks to this union. Hearing if it was up to Mo Bamba he would be a Bull by tonight. Wanted to be a Bull on draft night '18, and that hasn't changed. Problem is feeling isn't mutual at his current asking value. As reported by @KCJHoop, Danilo Gallinari is in play. — Joe Cowley (@JCowleyHoops) June 30, 2022 According to multiple reports, Bamba may want between $13-$15 million per year, or at least, the full mid-level exception. The Bulls may be against using the MLE because it would send them into the luxury tax. Whether the organization wants to avoid the tax completely, or it doesn’t view Bamba as...
Getty JaMycal Hasty attempts to tackle Xavier Rhodes during the 49ers' loss to the Colts on October 24, 2021. Turns out Sheldon Richardson isn’t the only past Pro Bowler who has been labeled as a potential late free agent addition for the San Francisco 49ers, should they pursue a late roster find. Even for a franchise that bolstered one key position this offseason by signing Charvarius Ward, re-signing Jason Verrett and drafting both Samuel Womack and Tariq Castro-Fields, there’s still the belief that the 49ers can add one more significant piece to fully solidify the cornerback spot. Getty Darvin Ham with Rob Pelinka. The NBA season is officially over with the Golden State Warriors taking down the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. Now that games are done being played, teams can start getting serious about roster construction for next season. The Los Angeles Lakers have a new head coach in Darvin Ham and now it’s time to set him up for success. The team has limited flexibility with three max players on the roster in LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Out of the three, the Lakers would mostly want to get off of Westbrook’s contract. He’s set to make $47 million next season once he picks up his player option. He’s not a good fit with the current roster and the Lakers would be better off with a different player. One guy who would certainly be a better fit is Zach LaVine. The two-time All-Star with the Chicago Bulls is going to hit free agency soon and can pick his team. Signs are pointing to him staying in Chicago but he’s always...
The Los Angeles Dodgers have made contact with Freddie Freeman’s camp as MLB free agency is back after the lockout. The Dodgers have long been in on Freeman, as they were deemed a realistic destination for several reasons — the most obvious of which is that the star first baseman was born in California. While the Dodgers are juggling a few free agent interests at the moment, especially with Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen still on the market, Freeman could be their biggest expense when all is said and done. If the Dodgers sign Freeman, money won’t play much of a role. Los Angeles has shown a willingness to go over the luxury tax threshold and pay whatever penalty necessary. After losing Corey Seager, gaining a big bat at first base and shifting Trea Turner and Max Muncy to the left on the diamond makes a lot of sense. Turner is a native shortstop, and Muncy is comfortable at second base, thus eliminating any void. The DH is also coming to the National League, opening up all sorts of options....
Getty New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh gets fired up after a play on October 3, 2021. The New York Jets have a lot of money to spend in free agency but the first step is seeing who’s actually available. In the modern-day NFL, many of the league’s top free-agent targets don’t end up hitting the open market from year to year. One reason is the creation of the franchise tag in 1993. The other is that players agree to an extension with their former organization before the process ever begins. If you’re hoping to make a few splashy signings in March, these offseason weeks between the Super Bowl and the league’s reopening can be agonizing, as you wait to see which assets become available. Fortunately for the Jets, one potential big-name target expects to be. Getty Seydou Keita in action for Barcelona. Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez wants to bring AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie to the Camp Nou in the summer on a free transfer to play a role similar to the one Seydou Keita performed for the Catalan giants. Negotiations between Barcelona and Kessie are said to be “very advanced” with the Catalans keen on having six midfielders in the first-team squad for next season, as reported by Sergi de Juan at L’Esportiu. Barca are already have plenty of options, with Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Pedri, Nico Gonzalez and Riqui Puig available, but Kessie has “a profile that does not currently exist in the staff.” Read More From Heavy How You Can Help Ukraine: Verified Charities, GoFundMe & Ways to Support Ukrainians The word from inside the club on Kessie is, “A player like him can do very well for us. Getty Barcelona have made AC Milan's Franck Kessie an offer. Barcelona are fast improving under new coach Xavi, particularly after bringing in four new players during the January transfer window, but are already making plans for the summer. The Catalan giants have made an offer for soon-to-be free agent Franck Kessie who looks set to depart AC Milan when his contract expires at the end of the season, as reported by journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. Barca have put an “important contract” offer on the table worth €6.5 million a year after ramping up their interest in the 25-year-old midfielder. The Catalans are said to be “the closest club” to signing Kessie and are now awaiting the Ivorian’s decision. Kessie has already informed AC Milan he will not be continuing at the San Siro and will look for a new club after five years with the Rossoneri, as reported by Adrian Fernandez at Diario Sport. The midfielder wants his future decided “as soon as possible” and “the idea of playing at the Camp Nou seduces him.” Kessie joined AC...
Getty Billy Donovan The Chicago Bulls have somehow managed to post the best record in the Eastern Conference at 25-10 despite being size challenged this season. The team’s starting center Nikola Vucevic has been the lone center active for more than a week while the Bulls wait on his backup Tony Bradley to come off health and safety protocols. Bradley should be able to return to the lineup on Friday when the Bulls play the Washington Wizards, but a strong case could be made for Chicago adding a veteran big man with a little more scoring potential. According to Stadium’s Shams Charania, the Milwaukee Bucks are waiving former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins. Getty The Steelers could be forced to make a decision free agent receiver Juju Smith-Schuster. Despite the fact he’s due to miss the majority of the 2021 season, one particular Pittsburgh Steelers receiver may get paid this offseason. According to Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, Juju Smith-Schuster — who is likely out for the season due to a dislocated shoulder — is one of several free agents “most likely” to be overpaid this offseason. “At the time, he joked that you’d need a wrecking ball to get him out of Pittsburgh, but it’s hard to imagine he’ll keep offering massive hometown discounts,” says Gagnon. “The soon-to-be 25-year-old eventually needs to cash in on his early-career success. But any team that signs him to a big-money, long-term deal might regret it.” “Not only is Smith-Schuster recovering from a significant shoulder injury, but it seems as though he peaked early in his career,” Gagnon continues. “He put up 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018, but he hasn’t been close to as effective since then due to injuries...
Getty Jonnu Smith The New England Patriots could be set to unleash Jonnu Smith the running back against the Cleveland Browns in Week 10. Those injury concerns would be enough to suggest Smith could see some carries against the Browns, but perhaps a bigger signal is the elevation of practice squad TE Matt LaCrosse. The veteran has not been active for any other games this season and his presence would seemingly give the Patriots more tight ends than they have had available for games this season.  It seems possible Smith could be slid to the running back spot to take some carries while also remaining a potential weapon in the...
Getty Denver Broncos cornerback Kyle Fuller warms up before a 2021 preseason game. When the 2022 offseason comes, the Kansas City Chiefs will for sure be active during free agency, particularly on the defensive side of the football. Because the entire offensive line is locked up for several years, and Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be on the roster through 2022, the defending AFC champions would be wise to direct their attention to the defensive side of the football during free agency. At that point, they will have a projected $30.8 million to spend, according to Spotrac. While a case can be made that the Chiefs should dump money into any and all positions on defense in 2022, one position that a strong case can be made for is cornerback. 100 best G-rated movies to watch as a family Airbus Lifts Profit Target as It Presses Advantage Over Boeing The NFL trade deadline is almost here again. With less than week before Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. ET, who are the players most likely to be moved from their current teams? Although it's not exactly a hot-stove league for deals in relation to other sports, the NFL has seen more action than usual in recent years on the October-November open market in relation to the March early offseason free-agency frenzy. The rumors this year are swirling most around one controversial big-name quarterback, but there are other notable players either being shopped or drawing interest from needy teams with the line being skewed between "buyers" and "sellers."  Here are 15 players to watch most for being traded, starting with the hottest rumor of them all in Houston: MORE: Latest Deshaun Watson trade news and rumors © Provided by Sporting News Deshaun-Watson-060921-Getty-FTR Deshaun Watson, QB, Texans It's elementary why the Texans are trying to ship out Watson while he still has...
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports Don’t be surprised if these five players are on the move between now and the mid-February NBA trade deadline. Once the 2021-22 NBA season begins, it won’t take long for the trade market to heat up. Some teams are bound to fall short of their preseason expectations, which will put pressure on their front offices to add reinforcements. Others will have to fill in holes because of injuries to key rotation players. Either way, the endgame is the same. With the free-agent market largely dried up, teams will mostly rely on trades to upgrade their rosters. Those deals will range in scope and size. Most trades will center around complementary starters or reserves, but a few All-Stars could be on the move as well. As teams fall out of playoff contention, they may be more incentivized to move veterans, particularly those on the final year of their respective contracts. With the 2022 free-agent class looking weaker by the day, teams may view the trade deadline as their best opportunity to upgrade their roster for the next...

DENVER (AP) — Bill Schmidt went from Colorado Rockies vice president of scouting to interim general manager this week. He will hold that title for the rest of the season — and hopefully longer as more than an interim. “I have aspirations of having the job full time and hopefully I can do a good enough job that Dick and Greg will give me consideration going forward,” Schmidt said Wednesday, referring to owner Dick Monfort and team president Greg Feasel. The Seahawks are reportedly meeting with Aldon Smith as the veteran defender looks to continue his second act in the NFL. Aldon Smith is a former No. 7 overall pick who lost four years of his career due to suspension. NEWCASTLE reportedly lead RB Leipzig in the race for highly-rated Juventus defender Radu Dragusin. Calciomercato claims Steve Bruce is eager to sign the Romanian centre-back, 19, when his contract expires this summer. 1Newcastle lead RB Leipzig in the hunt for Juventus defender Radu DragusinCredit: AP:Associated Press But Newcastle must still contend with interest from Leipzig, who see Dragusin as a replacement for Bayern Munich-bound Dayot Upamecano. Dragusin joined Juventus in 2018 after emerging as Romania’s top youth prospect, snubbing Chelsea in the process. And he made his first senior appearance in December’s 3-0 Champions League win against Dinamo Kiev. Dragusin has gone on to clock up another three games under Andrea Pirlo. But doubts remain over the ace’s future in Turin, with just months remaining on his contract. It’s seen Newcastle step to the front of the queue for Dragusin’s coveted signature. Getty Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson Allen Robinson has been the best offensive player for the Chicago Bears since he arrived in 2018. The seventh-year wide receiver signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Bears three seasons ago, and he has become an immediate fan favorite in addition to one of the team’s strongest leaders ever since. In his three seasons in Chicago, A-Rob has 255 receptions for 3,151 yards and 17 scores, and he finished his 2020 campaign with a career-high 102 catches for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns. This season wasn’t without drama, however, as Robinson let it be known he was unhappy with not being offered a contract extension by Chicago. The wideout deleted all things Bears related from his social media accounts early in the season, and he expressed frustration through his agent Brandon Parker about the fact that he wasn’t being taken care of financially the way, say, Keenan Allen or Cooper Kupp was. There were no holdouts or insults thrown by Robinson, though — he simply went to work week after...
Getty Nicholas Morrow tackling Kareem Hunt. There aren’t a lot of players that the Las Vegas Raiders should try to bring back for next season but they should consider at least one. Linebacker Nicholas Morrow has been with the team for years now. He was actually signed as an undrafted free agent during Jack Del Rio’s tenure as head coach. Morrow hadn’t done too much for the Raiders prior to the 2020 season but Jon Gruden was high on him. Well, he proved why the coach was high on him and was arguably the team’s best linebacker this season. He notched three sacks in 11 games and saw his role increase as the season went on. The veteran linebacker is set to hit free agency soon but he’d like to stay in Las Vegas. “I’d love to be a Raider. This is all I know. I’ve been here four years,” Morrow said Monday. “This is basically where I grew up as far as football goes.” The Raiders would be very wise to keep him around. He’s still young...

An unfortunate wrench in an otherwise stellar season for the 29-year-old backstop, who was slashing .267/.357/.527 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI in 41 games. It could very well be Realmuto’s last contributions to the Phillies, too, as he will hit the free-agent market this winter as the game’s most highly-coveted catcher, and it isn’t really close.  Since 2015, Realmuto has been baseball’s undisputed best catcher, which puts a premium on his services considering the lack of talent at his position around the league. Just look at how he’s dominated the statlines amongst MLB catchers that played at least 200 of their games...

Regarding the 60-game schedule, Martinez said: “I would not want to be a free agent during this time for that reason. You just don’t know.” As Martinez implied, a shorter season is more conducive to strange outcomes – perhaps damaging ones for pending free agents – than a 162-game slate. For instance, one of the surprises of this season has been the typically great Martinez’s underwhelming production, and he’s running out of time to boost...
