But police said that was not before the man reportedly pointed a gun at her. Police believe the man is armed with multiple guns, and is alone inside the home. A tactical negotiator was working to contact the man. “We are working towards and hoping for a peaceful resolution to this incident,” police said in a tweet Friday afternoon. Check back...

OAKLAND — Months after charging a Livermore man with murdering his girlfriend by beating her in the head, Alameda County prosecutors dropped the case, writing in court records that new evidence on the alleged victim’s cause of death made murder impossible to prove. Jacob Krzemski, 39, was charged with murdering 47-year-old Corina Lee, who died on April 9, 2020. He said Lee had injured herself bicycling days earlier; she then went unresponsive and was hospitalized hours before she died. Krzemski was initially arrested on suspicion of violating a restraining order that forbade contact with Lee. He was then charged with murder based on the belief that he had beaten Lee and caused a fatal head injury. But by last February, the case had fallen apart. Krzemski’s attorney, Deputy Public Defender Stephanie Clark, said the entire case was propped up by a “miscommunication” between police and the medical examiner who performed the autopsy. Despite the dropped murder charge, Krzemski remains in legal trouble; he was found in violation of the restraining order and is currently in North Kern State Prison with a...
RICHMOND — Richmond police Chief Bisa French is back on the job, after being on administrative leave for nearly a year after she and her husband, an Oakland police sergeant, were accused of abuse by a family member who they believed was being manipulated by her pimp. Bisa French’s reinstatement brings to a near-end a bizarre saga that started last October, and ensnared three Bay Area police departments. It all started when she and her husband, Oakland police Sgt. Lee French, were accused by a relative, a then-18-year-old woman, of domestic violence and criminal threats against her boyfriend, 34-year-old Joe Goldman, also known as Ojo McNair and Oho McNair, of Napa. The Frenchs in turn accused Goldman of trafficking their relative. “It’s just been a nightmare for them to have to live through this and to see the destruction of a wonderful, vibrant young woman,” said Mike Rains, an attorney representing the Frenchs. He said the couple has phone records proving their family member was in contact with Goldman before she turned 18. The case resulted in internal investigations at...

NEW YORK (AP) — The nation’s oldest civil rights organization said it will propose a sweeping plan meant to protect Black Americans from white supremacist violence in response to a hate-fueled massacre that killed 10 Black people in Buffalo, New York, last weekend. In a plan first shared with The Associated Press, the NAACP suggests a policy approach to stopping future acts of anti-Black domestic terrorism that involves law enforcement, business regulation and gun control. The proposal points to measures that could be taken up immediately by the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission. Specifically, the plan calls for holding accountable any corporation that is complicit in the spread of bigotry and racism through news media and on social platforms, for enacting gun violence prevention measures that keep mass-casualty weapons out of the hands of would-be assailants and for reforming police practices so Black Americans experience the same de-escalation tactics often used to peacefully apprehend murderous white supremacists. Saturday’s premeditated attack by an avowed racist on Black shoppers at the Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo made it clear...

Kim Kardashian has urged Texas Governor Greg Abbott to spare the life of a domestic violence victim who is due to be executed in 22 days after she 'falsely' pleaded guilty to beating her two-year-old daughter to death following hours of police interrogation. But worn down from a lifetime of abuse and the grief of losing her daughter, her lawyers say, the Texas woman finally acquiesced to investigators at 3am in the morning on February 17 2007.
