One of the most-tenured A’s was designated for assignment on Wednesday — and their scheduled starter for the day game against the Angels won’t pitch, either. Oakland designated Jed Lowrie for assignment on Wednesday morning, ending the 38-year-old infielder’s third stint with the green and gold. Oakland also sent right-handed starter Paul Blackburn, their lone All-Star in 2022, to the injured list with an inflamed right middle finger, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He’s currently 7-6 with a 4.28 ERA in 111.1 innings pitched and in his last start on Aug. 4, Blackburn picked up his first win in nearly two months, allowing four runs in five innings to beat the Angels. To replace Blackburn and Lowrie, the A’s called up left-handed pitcher JP Sears and selected outfielder Cal Stevenson’s contract, both players recently acquired in trades. Sears will get the start in Blackburn’s place, his first appearance for the A’s since he was traded in the move that sent Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino to the Yankees. Sears made seven appearances and two starts for the Yankees this season,...
Getty Kyle Dugger The New England Patriots need offensive and defensive playmakers and a recent first-round pick has been pegged as the team’s next superstar. According to Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport, the Patriots’ Kyle Dugger is the one safety in the NFL ready to make the jump to superstardom in 2022. Dugger was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In each of Dugger’s seasons in the NFL, he has made strides both statistically and from an impact standpoint. As a rookie in 2020, Dugger didn’t have an interception, but he made 64 tackles in 14 games and 7 starts. In 2021, Dugger transitioned to be a full-time starter. He started 13 of the 15 games he played and picked off 4 passes. Dugger also had a fumble recovery in addition to 92 tackles, 5 for a loss. Based on this trajectory, Davenport’s projections are at the very least on the right track. The Patriots will ask a ton of Dugger as he shares the secondary with a group of cornerbacks who don’t look like...

Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told KTVT, "It's a parent’s worst nightmare for their own child to be forcibly prostituted by a human trafficker. We've now secured justice by forcing that trafficker to pay the consequences." Willis said Stevenson kidnapped the girl when she was only 16 years old. There were reportedly two other females who were forced into prostitution by the pimp. Stevenson openly boasted on social media that he was a pimp. He even bragged about forcing his victims to get loyalty tattoos and threatening them if they attempted to leave. Getty Julio Jones makes a move after making a catch against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills could still have room to add another weapon for Josh Allen — and a very accomplished one at that — one insider speculates. Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News noted that the Bills could still have some moves left in free agency, including bringing in a veteran wide receiver who could push the offense to a new level. FOXBORO (CBS) — The Patriots will not have Rhamondre Stevenson or Nelson Agholor for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Both players have been ruled out for the contest, which will likely decide which team wins the AFC East. Stevenson has been ruled out after missing all three days of practice with an undisclosed illness. It will leave New England shorthanded in the backfield, though it looks like lead back Damien Harris is poised to make a return after sitting out last Saturday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Harris is one of eight players that New England listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report — all of whom were limited during Friday’s session inside Gillette Stadium: C David Andrews, Shoulder DL Christian Barmore, Knee LB Ja’Whaun Bentley, Ribs/Ankle RB Brandon Bolden, Knee K Nick Folk, Left Knee RB Damien Harris, Hamstring WR N’Keal Harry, Hip S Adrian Phillips, Knee Agholor has been ruled out after he missed all three days with a concussion that he sustained last Saturday. The New England Patriots looked to regain the top seed in the AFC with a win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday. They were in this position following the Kansas City Chiefs’ overtime win over the Los Angeles Chargers this past Thursday. Early on, things were not going well for New England. BOSTON (CBS) — The Patriots will not have their usual rushing attack against the Colts on Saturday night. Damien Harris has been ruled out for the contest. Harris suffered a hamstring injury during New England’s Week 13 win over the Buffalo Bills and had to leave the game in the second half. He was limited in practice all week leading up to New England’s departure for Indy on Friday, but is not making the trip with the rest of the team. That will leave the Patriots with just Rhamondre Stevenson and Brandon Bolden out of the backfield. Harris is New England’s leading rusher this season with 754 yards and nine touchdowns on 164 carries. Stevenson, whom New England drafted in the fourth round in 2021, has 429 yards and three touchdowns for his rookie season, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.

Getty Rhamondre Stevenson At one point, running back appeared to be a position of strength for the New England Patriots. BOSTON (CBS) — The New England Patriots’ running back carousel continues to spin. A week after coughing up a fumble vs. the Buccaneers, second-year back J.J. Taylor is inactive for Sunday’s game in Houston. Taylor’s spot on the inactive list opened the door for the return of rookie running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who himself spent three weeks with the inactives after he fumbled the ball away in his first NFL game. Taylor was used sparingly in his three games this season, rushing four times for five yards while catching three passes for three yards. Stevenson rushed once for two yards and caught one pass for nine yards in his NFL debut, which included the aforementioned fumble and an issue in blitz pickup that resulted in a big hit on Mac Jones. Stevenson led the entire NFL in the preseason with 217 rushing yards and five touchdowns. The Patriots rank 31st in the NFL with 68.5 rushing yards per game, a number that dipped significantly last week, when the team rushed for negative yardage against the Buccaneers. BOSTON (CBS) — In his NFL debut, Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled the football and got blown up in pass protection. In Week 2, the rookie running back will be a spectator. Stevenson was on the inactive list for the Patriots on Sunday, as they face the New York Jets in the Meadowlands. With no listing on the injury report this week, that makes Stevenson a healthy scratch. The fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma led the entire NFL in preseason rushing yards and touchdowns, but his regular-season debut was less successful. He had one rush for two yards, and one reception for nine yards, while losing a fumble near midfield in the first quarter. Later in the first half, Stevenson was knocked backward by Elandon Roberts, who continued into the backfield and delivered a low hit on Mac Jones — one which drew a penalty. Stevenson took just five offensive snaps in that game, leading the team to rely heavily on Damien Harris, who himself fumbled late in the game to help contribute to the loss. Getty Damien Harris From the beginning, the 2021 New England Patriots have been pegged as a run-dominant offense. Many thought that offense would be led by Cam Newton, but when he was released and the team elected to go with rookie quarterback Mac Jones, there was a question as to how much that decision would change the attack. BOSTON (CBS) — Usually, playing out the final few minutes of a preseason game is merely a formality. But Patriots fans who stayed until the end of Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Washington Football Team at Gillette Stadium were treated to one electric run by rookie running back Rhamondre Stevenson. With just over a minute to go in the game, Stevenson ripped off a 91-yard touchdown run that sent all of Gillette into pure jubilation. Darío Pé[email protected] Ringsider2020 The North Americans Jamel herring (23-2, 11 KO), super featherweight world champion, and Shakur stevenson (16-0, 8 KOs) (pictured), interim champion, have reached an agreement to meet in the United States next fall, expected in November. As both are on Top Rank’s payroll, Bob Arum’s company has reached an agreement with both without the need for an auction. This aspect would have seriously harmed Herring, since, according to the rules of the WBO, when two world champions participate in it, the percentage of the same is awarded according to the last three bags received. As Stevenson, although acting, for them is world champion like Herring, in a hypothetical bid, the contender for the absolute world belt, the real one, would have obtained much less money than the aspirant, champion of a title subordinate to his. Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto beat himself up after lack of hustle on a popup during Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. In MLB, we sometimes see the manager get angry at their player if they fail to hustle on a routine play. For the Washington Nationals, no coach needed to do so, because outfielder Juan Soto really beat himself up following a lapse of judgement during Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Soto stepped into the batters box with Andrew Stevenson on third base with two outs on the board while holding a 5-4 lead. On a 3-2 count, Soto hit a high popup just in front of home plate that appeared to be an easy out by catcher Pedro Severino. Instead, the ball dropped and Stevenson scored. The problem was that Soto had to hustle to first base after staring at the popup and was called out at first. COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — After more than three decades of hosting presidential candidates testing their mettle among voters in the first-in-the-South primary state of South Carolina, the Greenville landmark, Tommy’s Country Ham House, is turning off the fryer and shutting its doors. On Sunday, owner Tommy Stevenson announced that his restaurant would close this spring. The proprietor said he is going to slow down a bit to spend time with his grandchildren instead of waking at 4 a.m. six days a week to make fresh sausage, grind beef and slice pork chops. “The Country Ham House has been my life,” Stevenson, who turns 80 this year, said in a release. “None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, so I felt now was the time to retire, relax a bit and do some of the things I’ve not been able to do.” The building is being purchased by a Charleston-based restaurant group that plans to reopen it with a “new dining concept” in 2022. Since the mid 1980s, Tommy’s has been a staple for politicians, wannabe politicos and observers of the process,...
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – After recent moments of division in the country, a Texas woman has found a way to thank police officers all across the nation and remind them why they are appreciated. The initiative called “I’ve got your 6,” stemmed from the organization South Plains Stars and Shields, based out of Lubbock by co-founder Stacy Harvey. “I’ve got your six means I’ve got your back,” Harvey said. To show support for officers, she mails out cards with the “I’ve got your 6” free of charge to anyone who wants to hand them out their local officers. All she asks is that you write a personalized thank-you message on the card and, if you want, add in a $6 gift card. Then on the sixth of every month, distribute them to officers. “We did that and other people started seeing it and it blew up. We’ve sent them to 17 states,” Harvey said. The cause is personal to Harvey’s heart. She lost her police officer husband in the line of duty back in 2009. She says recently the amount...

This is crazy. The Star Tribune’s Stephen Montemayor reports: “At least a half-dozen Minnesota Republicans running for state legislative seats in November have promoted the sprawling QAnon conspiracy theory that includes false claims that Satanists and pedophiles run the government and that COVID-19 is part of a plot to steal the election. … Once dismissed as a fringe movement, QAnon is quickly seeping into mainstream Republican politics as scores of GOP candidates across the country express support for its ideas.” Training tomorrow’s leaders. MPR’s Melissa Townsend reports: “When Aarica Coleman decided to run for the Minnesota Senate earlier this year, she was motivated by deepening racial inequities across the state that have led to catastrophic crises in housing, health, income and community safety. …Although she lost the DFL primary, she credits a program in St. Paul with helping her prepare for her foray into politics and igniting a passion for influencing policy … Coleman graduated from the Amherst H. Jill Biden's ex-husband said he plans to vote for President Trump in the November election. Bill Stevenson told the Daily Mail on Monday that he voted for President Barack Obama but will cast his ballot this year for Trump because of his stance on police. Stevenson, who said he was "betrayed" by the Bidens, also said that he felt compelled to speak about his history with his ex-wife because of Joe Biden's invocation of "character." "It's years ago, but guess what? It's so current right now because he is picking on people about character," Stevenson said. "I've said from the very beginning that I have no hard feelings about Joe, Jill, the affair, but if I don't do it now, it's never going to be able to be brought up." Last month, Stevenson said that his then-wife had an affair with Joe Biden that broke up their marriage, adding that the couple's story on how their relationship came to be is not accurate. The Bidens said that they became a couple in 1975 after a blind date, but...
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A protester who suffered a serious eye injury in the unrest following George Floyd’s death has filed a lawsuit against the City of Minneapolis, including the police chief and multiple officers. WCCO has previously reported on Soren Stevenson, who was at the front of a protest line at a ramp to southbound I-35W and at University Avenue on May 31. In the protest, a “non-lethal” round struck Stevenson’s left eye. “We were linking arms and just before that, we were saying ‘hands up, don’t shoot’,” Stevenson recalled in the June 3 intervierw. Now, in a lawsuit filed against the City of Minneapolis, Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo and multiple “John Doe” police officers, Stevenson says he suffered injuries as a result of unreasonable use of deadly force. Stevenson says he was exercising his First Amendment rights when he was struck in the left eye with a “40 millimeter blunt-impact projectile” that ultimately resulted him losing the eye. There were no warnings given to Stevenson, who was unarmed and displayed no aggression, the lawsuit...
