    A Maryland man could spend up to two decades behind bars after being found guilty of more than a dozen charges related to the assault of two Anne Arundel County Police officers. Annapolis resident Brandon Hardy, 26, was sentenced to 15 years of active incarceration and is subject to an additional five years, which were suspended, for 13 charges including two counts of second-degree assault against officers Saifedlin Hussain and James Yee in September 2021. Hardy was also sentenced for a "litany of felony drug charges for possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances," leaving him subject to five additional years in prison if he violates his probation, according to Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess. The suspects as found guilty by a jury in July 2022, Leitess noted. In a bid reportedly to save Prince Andrew from embarrassment, the honour was stripped from the Duke of York as well as William, Kate, Anne, Edward, Camilla and Sophie.     A man from Anne Arundel County, who was driving under the influence, has been charged with killing a Baltimore woman, authorities said.  Christopher Asher, 48, was charged for striking and killing Lizeth Guzman, 56, at the intersection of Davidsonville Road and Kings Retreat Road just after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, Anne Arundel County Police said.  Investigation revealed Asher was driving under the influence when he turned onto Kings Retreat Drive and hit Guzman, police said. Asher refused to stay at the scene of the collision and kept driving until he crashed into a nearby sign, police said. Guzman was flown to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. Asher sustained no injuries from the incident, police said.  Asher has since been charged with multiple charges related to the crash including negligent manslaughter, DUI and reckless driving.

    A restaurant owner from Anne Arundel County has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing an Army veteran while he was driving under the influence, the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's office said on Tuesday, April 19.  Guarav “Sonny” Rawal, owner of Champs Pizza in Glen Burnie, was intoxicated, using his phone and excessively speeding when he slammed into the back of Anthony Jean-Louis' car last year.  The impact caused Jean-Louis to lose control, overturn and crash into a nearby guardrail, killing him on impact. Jean-Louis served in the US Army from 2001 to 2016, according to his obituary.  “Mr. Jean-Louis was senselessly killed by an out of control driver and his family has suffered from this unimaginable event," said State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess.     A 40-year-old man was shot by one of two men he was chasing after finding them in his car on Tuesday, March 1, police in Anne Arundel County said. Officers were called to the 500 block of Cairn Road in Millersville just after midnight for a shooting, police said. There, they found the victim, who said he was walking to his car when he saw two people inside of it, authorities said. The victim chased the men out of the car until one of the suspects turned and shot him, according to police. The victim was later taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers did not find the suspects but did find several shell casings and one car that was damaged by a bullet. The suspects are both said to be black males, between the ages of 18 and 25 and were last seen wearing dark clothing.     The royal family has released a schedule of of foreign tours for the Platinum Jubilee with Prince Edward and Princess Anne given major roles in a glimpse of the future of the slimmed down monarchy. The spring of this year will see The Earl and Countess of Wessex will visit Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines while Princess Anne will visit Papua New Guinea.     An unvaccinated pregnant woman lost her baby after she went into premature labor while being treated for COVID-19. Last month, mother-of-two Kimberly Rangel, of Meridien, Idaho, contracted the virus and her health quickly declined, reported KTVB. She was hospitalized and placed in a medically induced coma for a few weeks while doctors tried to stabilize her vitals. However, Rangel went into premature labor and, when she woke up, she was told that her baby did not make it.     Leaders in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, addressed the community Tuesday about COVID-19 numbers and other matters, including the police department’s body worn camera program and the struggle to hire and retain school bus drivers. County Executive Steuart Pittman said the seven-day average of COVID-19 cases is still in the “17 to 20 range,” noting hospitalizations are also in excess of 50 for county hospitals, which recently forced doctors to delay a small number of elective surgeries. “I keep hoping that each week I’ll be able to say that Delta has run its course and we’re dropping, but we seem to be holding steady,” said Pittman at a news conference.     The royal family have marked World Photography Day by celebrating some of Britain's youngest photographers.  Kate Middleton and Prince Willian, both 39, took to social media to highlight the pictures taken by Hold Still's youngest finalists to mark today's event.  The Duchess, who is a keen amateur photographer, launched the Hold Still initiative during lockdown and asked the public to submit their images which captured the period for a digital exhibition.     ANNAPOLIS (WJZ) — Maryland reports 1,696 new coronavirus cases and 36 more deaths, as hospitalizations are relatively flat Monday morning. There have now been 343,138 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state since the pandemic began and 6,726 deaths. Hospitalizations went up by one case Monday, and now stand at 1,669. Of those, 395 are in ICU beds and 1,274 are in acute care. The statewide positivity rate also continues to drop, now at 6.84%. The state conducted 34,734 coronavirus tests in the last 24 hours, with 7,679 coming back negative. Vaccine efforts continue as the state enters Phase 1C this week. There have now been 358,262 doses administered. Of those, 319,007 are first doses and 39,255 second doses. There have been 10,541 first doses administered in the last 24 hours and 1,748 second doses.     A man was shot Sunday morning while sitting in a car in Glen Burnie, Maryland, according to police. Anne Arundel County Police said in a release they found a 29-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound in the 6400 block of Jefferson Place. The man was taken to the hospital for immediate treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. Police said the suspected shooter is a man, and there’s no known motive in the shooting. (WJZ) — An 18-year-old Baltimore man was arrested Wednesday after police said he hit two squad cars while fleeing from officers who were trying to stop him for impaired driving. Tyjuan Keon Tates faces 17 charges, including five felonies, stemming from the early-morning incident in Brooklyn Park, online court records show. The child’s aunt Nikki Walker recently took to Instagram and shared the story of the dog bite. She also tagged a few Marvel stars because Bridger is a big fan. “On July 9th, my six year old nephew Bridger saved his little sister’s life by standing between her and a charging dog,” Walker wrote. “After getting bit several times on the face and head, he grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to keep her safe.
