    Despite countless attempts by Major League Lacrosse to rebrand itself during its 20-year run that ended in 2020, the sport never attracted the sport’s traditionalists. The enthusiasm ended after the NCAA Division I championships in late May, and professional lacrosse drew about as much interest as an old Baltimore football fan watching the New York Jets upset the Colts again in Super Bowl III. But this current version of pro lacrosse, the Premier Lacrosse League, is different. It’s exciting, fast and well-conceived. I’m hooked. This is the fourth year for the PLL, which was founded and run by former Johns Hopkins All-American midfielder Paul Rabil and his brother, Mike. After watching a couple of games on TV and then traveling to Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Field last weekend, it was faster than on TV.     FOXBORO (CBS) — An All-Star game is coming to Massachusetts. The Premier Lacrosse League announced Tuesday that Gillette Stadium will host the league’s All-Star Game for the first time this July. The best lacrosse players in the world will all come together to hit the turf at Gillette for the All-Star Game and the All-Star Skills Challenge on July 16. Tickets for the event will go on sale to the general public in mid-March.     BOSTON (CBS) — The Premier Lacrosse League will open its season on June 4 at Gillette Stadium. Before the season begins, local fans will get a chance to see all eight teams in action. The PLL will host exhibition games at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy on Tuesday, June 1, beginning at 2 p.m. Tickets for the games cost $8, and parking is free. Patriots fans will be interested to see Chris Hogan, who will be playing for the Cannons Lacrosse Club after making the switch from the NFL to the PLL.     BOSTON (CBS) — Not only will the Premier Lacrosse League begin its season at Gillette Stadium, it will also get ready to kick off the 2021 season at Gillette Stadium. The PLL announced Tuesday that it will be holding 2021 Training Camp at Gillette Stadium from May 28 through June 3, 2021 leading up to their Week 1 matchups at the home of the Patriots and Revolution. During camp, PLL players will partake in official team practices, scrimmages, workouts, film sessions and educational workshops.     LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Premier Lacrosse League on Wednesday announced the schedule for its third season, and its tour-based model includes stops in 11 major markets from coast to coast. Opening weekend for the eight-team league begins June 4 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The season also will include an All-Star weekend in mid-July at Earthquakes Stadium in San Jose, California, and a three-weekend playoff staged in Salt Lake City, Philadelphia, and the championship Sept. 19 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. In February, Hogan announced that after a nine-year NFL career, he was declaring for the Premier Lacrosse League entry draft. Hogan went undrafted, but the 33-year-old was claimed by the Cannons Lacrosse Club on Wednesday. The Cannons were formally based in Boston when it was a part of Major League Lacrosse.     BOSTON (CBS) — The Boston Cannons are now members of the Premier Lacrosse League, as part of the league’s merger with Major League Lacrosse. The PLL and MLL officially merged on Wednesday, and all operations will now formally exist under the Premier Lacrosse League. As a part of that merger, the Cannons are now the PLL’s eighth team, and they’ll no longer be known as the Boston Cannons. The team is being rebranded to the Cannons Lacrosse Club. The Cannons Lacrosse Club roster will be entirely selected through an Expansion Draft in 2021. The Cannons had been part of Major League Lacrosse since the league’s debut year in 2001. Boston won a pair of titles during their run in MLL, in 2011 and most recently in July, when they won the 2020 MLL title during a COVID-19-shortened season.
