WITH Christmas right around the corner, many of us are starting to purchase our evergreens and gather our ornaments from the attic. Eco-friendly companies like All Birds and Rothy's aren’t just becoming go-to shoe brands because of their commitment to sustainability. In fact, these forward-thinking, innovative companies are designing shoes that are so comfortable and fashionable, you’d never know they were made with sustainable materials like wool and recycled water bottles. Like these popular footwear brands, Giesswein's ballet flats (and all of their shoes, for that matter) are designed with the commitment to lessen their overall ecological footprint. The Austrian-based, family-owned footwear company uses materials like recycled ocean PET fabric – meaning plastic that has been recovered from the ocean – and Merino wool to create their footwear lineup, including the ever-adorable, super-stylish Eco Pointed Ballet Flats. The company’s flats come in two distinct style: a pointy and a round toe. I gravitated more toward the pointed toe because it looks more formal and dressed-up than the rounded toe, which I recommend for more casual, dressed-down days. Giesswein Pointed Ballet Flats

The top microwave mistakes you should never make have been revealed - including zapping food without a cover and failing to clean spills immediately. Consumer watchdog Choice revealed the eight top mistakes you should avoid making and explained how the common errors could ruin your microwave or make you sick. The first mistake many people make is putting the handy appliance in the wrong spot.  In reality it doesn't matter if the microwave is tucked away in the pantry or sitting on the bench taking up space. One of the top mistakes people make when using a microwave is failing to cover their food (stock image) What does matter is the amount of room around it, there should be ten centimetres around the sides and 20 centimetres on top to allow for enough airflow. Failing to do this could be an expensive mistake as your microwave is likely to overheat and malfunction. The second most common mistake is not covering food which can be messy, but can also cause your meal to heat unevenly leaving it cold in some...

It wasn’t the first time British hygiene standards made me cringe. Ever since I arrived from my native Israel in 1994, I’ve been baffled by the approach so many people take to cleaning, whether that’s their bedroom or bodies. CARLISLE (CBS) –  Andrew Trebino and his sister Steph are now busier during the pandemic than they could ever imagined. They have a bustling, brand new face mask company operating out of their mother’s Carlisle dining room. “The whole thing came together super, super quick,” Andrew told WBZ-TV. It started when the pandemic hit and Andrew lost his software sales job. But the crisis gave him an idea. “Within a week I had a prototype. I walked to Joanne Fabrics, Michaels and did super glue, I tried magnets, I tried a bunch of different things and this came to be the most efficient and simplest thing,” he said. And then suddenly the “Handy Band Face Mask” was born. “It’s always good to have a mask handy and if you can wear it on your wrist and make it a bracelet it’s going to come in handy much, much more,” Andrew said. It wraps right around your wrist when you are not wearing it. The idea is you never forget it when you leave the house. His sister, the accountant, loved...

For three days, extracts from Barbara Amiel’s new autobiography Friends And Enemies have rampaged across the pages of this newspaper. Jaws dropped and eyeballs popped as Lady Black unpacked her life; pegging out her dirty laundry with a boiling honesty one could only admire, especially given the ferocity of her critics over the years. Indeed, when her fourth husband Conrad Black was jailed on charges of fraud and obstruction of justice in 2007, you could have floated many a boat on the universal gloat. ‘The fall of Conrad Black,’ said the Wall Street Journal, ‘is being received in Britain with almost as much glee as the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo.’ So alongside her startling confessions of sexual buccaneering and lavish spending, she also sets about her foes with gusto, picking them off like a perfumed sniper. Lawyers should be strangled at birth. Anyone who ‘persecuted’ her and her husband should be injected with Ebola virus so she can watch them die. Journalists who criticised were ‘jealous’ of her wealth or just plain ‘smelly’. Barbara Amiel attends the 2nd...

First he blessed us with a tool that adds an AI-powered duplicate of yourself to Zoom meetings. His newest creation is perhaps even more useful, allowing you to Rickroll your co-workers. There’s a good chance your next Zoom meeting will be the last you’re ever invited to. Using the tool is as easy as heading over to InviteRick.com this morning, any time after 9 a.m. ET, and submitting an invite link for a Zoom meeting you’re currently stuck in. You’ll be automatically added to a queue—the website will let you know your place in line and approximately how long it will be before Rick Astley starts a private performance of “Never Gonna Give You Up” for everyone in the Zoom meeting. The Rickroll only lasts for 15 seconds before it disconnects, but there’s a solid chance Rick will be booted from the meeting long before that. You can read a brief explainer on how InviteRick works...
Dear Amy: My father was judgmental, critical, mean to my mother, and generally lacking in empathy or love. I can’t remember him ever saying “I love you” to any of us. He would start these fights with Mom that would make everyone uncomfortable. Columnist Amy Dickinson (Bill Hogan/Chicago Tribune)  My mother died in 2007. She modeled good parenting, and we never questioned her love for us. I’m now married (12 years, second time). I consciously vowed never to be like my dad. I recently visited my brother and his wife. During my visit, I immediately recognized the exact same behavior I detested in my dad, coming from my brother. He was constantly belittling his wife, and was impatient and critical. It was scary to watch, and took my breath away. Recently, particularly during the COVID-19 stay-at-home, I started recognizing my father in me! Innocent little arguments with my wife became big ridiculous fights (usually dragged on by me). I started using the same belittling language and angry tendencies I recognized from my dad (and now my brother) when talking to...
JUST like the rest of the nation, the Queen likes to stay cool in the warmer months by wearing lightweight fabrics and cool summer dresses. But, unlike the rest of us, the 94-year-old monarch's frocks are all tested first using an electric fan to ensure they don't blow up when a breeze hits. 2The Queen's summer dresses are tested before wearing them to ensure they don't tblow upCredit: Getty - Pool Many of the Queen's clothes are designed and made at the palace by senior dresser Angela Kelly and her team - and a lot of thought goes into the fabrics chosen and the design characteristics. In her 2012 book Dressing The Queen, Angela revealed that she sketches at least four different designs for a particular piece of fabric, and the Monarch then chooses which she'd prefer. She then produces a technical drawing before everything is cut and made to fit a mannequin matching the Queen’s size - which has never been revealed. After a prototype is made and the final fabric is cut an electric...
Spotify wants to ensure you never forget a podcast advertiser’s promo code again. The company announced today that it’s testing a new feature called “In-App Offers” that give podcasts the ability to keep an embedded link on their episode pages that, when tapped, leads to an advertiser’s webpage. That webpage will automatically load with the promo code inserted. This way, people don’t have to remember podcast ads’ promo codes or go out of their way to find an advertiser’s website. The new feature is apparently just the start for Spotify’s interactive ads. The company is looking for ways to “create more of a direct funnel for brands,” like bringing people to their website with a promo code automatically inserted, Jay Richman, head of ads business and platform at Spotify, tells The News Brig. “I think you could start to then piece together what a potential roadmap could look like, just based on the model with which we view this opportunity,” Richman says. “So, it is one step in a larger innovation path to productize the coupon code.” The test...
