"He is stable, but the coming days are critical," Normane wrote. "Please consider supporting his wife Alicia, and his three kids Payton, Christian and Taya, in what will be an uphill battle both emotionally and financially." Nearly $40,000 had been raised by upwards of 420 donors in less than 24 hours. Holy Spirit High School also shared the fundraiser and asked for prayers. Mourners at Keith Simms's funeral remembered a loving husband, father and grandfather whose other great passions were country music and the South Sydney Rabbitohs.  They had no idea the man they knew as Magoo was a suburban monster who sexually assaulted perhaps dozens of women and months later would be exposed as the 'Beast of Bondi'. Simms was recently identified by DNA technology as responsible for a dozen sex attacks committed across Sydney's east between 1987 and 2000. He was also linked to at least 19 others. Armed with a knife and disguised in a balaclava, Simms attacked vulnerable girls as young as 13 and women as old as 55. A 16-year-old he raped at Bondi in 1986 fell pregnant and had an abortion.   Mourners at Keith Simms's funeral remembered a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mum, this is really difficult for me to say,’ the WhatsApp message from my 12-year-old daughter began. ‘... I don’t feel like a girl, but I don’t feel like a boy.’  Staring at my phone in shock and disbelief, I replied that we’d talk about it when she got home. Later, in our living room, Lizzie told me she wanted to be referred to with they/them pronouns.  She wanted everyone to call her Zack, to swap her skirts and pink tops for curve-concealing hoodies and obliterate nearly every aspect of her former life. She had been too nervous to tell me in person that she was non-binary, yet now she looked as determined as she did scared.  I, meanwhile, felt like I had been kicked in the face. Lizzie was the name I’d chosen for my daughter, the name I’d painted in pink on her bedroom wall, to suit the princess-loving little girl I adored. Surely this must be a mistake. A phase. A way of fitting in.  One mother explains her struggle with accepting her daughter as Zack (pictured)...
The former wife of a Georgia man sentenced to life in prison for leaving their young son to die in a hot car has praised the Supreme Court's decision to overturn his conviction - describing her ex-husband as a devoted father but 'a terrible husband'. Justin Ross Harris, 41, was sentenced to life in prison for the death of his 22-month-old son, Cooper, who died in June 2014 after being left in a hot car for seven hours.  Cooper's mother, Leanna Taylor, always insisted that Cooper's death was an accident. On Wednesday Georgia's Supreme Court overturned the murder conviction after they found the jury was shown evidence that was 'extremely and unfairly prejudicial.' Taylor on Thursday said the court had made the right decision, calling it 'big news for Ross and his family.' She added: 'I know they are grateful for this turn of events.' Justin Ross Harris, 41, is pictured in court in July 2014 - one month after Cooper's death Cooper, 22-months-old, was left in the backseat of Harris' car for more than seven hours in June 2014  Harris was described...
(CNN)Leanna Taylor has long maintained that her ex-husband did not mean to leave their 22-month-old son Cooper to die in the back of a sweltering SUV eight years ago. In 2016, Taylor took the stand at the trial of Justin Ross Harris, the Georgia father sentenced to life without parole for the 2014 hot-car death of their son. She described Harris as a "very involved" parent who never expressed anger or malice toward Cooper. On Thursday, one day after Georgia's Supreme Court overturned Harris' murder conviction, she said she hoped the decision helps change the way the toddler is remembered. "That he was wanted, that he was loved and that he is missed every single day," she said in a statement released by her attorney Lawrence Zimmerman.A Georgia father was charged with murder for leaving his toddler in a hot car. The state Supreme Court just overturned that ruling. Heres how we got hereGeorgia's highest court ruled 6-3 that evidence submitted by prosecutors of Harris' extramarital sexual relationships -- which the state portrayed as the motivation behind his decision to kill...

Louisiana state Sen. Sharon Hewitt represents some of the very parishes suing the company her husband works for over its role in damaging wetlands. Last week, Floodlight News published an excellent piece digging into the legislation being pushed by former Shell exec and Louisiana state Sen. Sharon Hewitt that not only benefits the industry she left but her oil and gas-loving husband, Stan, who works as an engineer with LLOG Exploration. The company, which identifies and develops potential oil and gas-drilling sites, is one of the numerous businesses being sued by the very parishes Hewitt represents for their roles in damaging wetlands. It’s clear based on Hewitt’s record she’d rather support LLOG Exploration and other polluters than her constituents: Hewitt has been outspoken in her criticism of such lawsuits, sponsoring two bills and a resolution and even authoring a guest newspaper column discrediting the suits. “Continuing to pursue these lawsuits only reaffirms Louisiana's reputation as a ‘judicial hellhole’ and drives our businesses to invest in other states,” Hewitt wrote in a 2017 column for the New Orleans Advocate. And god help the Hewitts...

Jennifer Hudson has been praised for her emotional performance during the Aretha Franklin biopic, yet the script has been criticised for not allowing 'for a deep enough look' at the Queen of Soul.  Critics of Respect, which is out in the US on August 13 and in the UK on September 10, lambasted the highly anticipated film yesterday for missing out vital parts of Franklin's life, while fictionalising other elements. For instance, the movie leaves out many unsavoury details about the singing sensation's philandering preacher father, who fathered a child with a 12-year-old member of his congregation. Elsewhere, the childhood abuse the 18 Grammy Award-winner suffered after becoming pregnant aged 12 is 'never really broached fully'. Reviewers also noted how Cissy Houston, mother of famed singer Whitney, and her R&B group The Sweet Inspirations were 'erased' from the movie - despite playing an important role in the anthem Ain’t No Way as well as singing back-up to Franklin and touring with her for years.  Here, FEMAIL separates fact from fiction in Respect...  CLAIM: FRANKLIN'S FATHER WASN'T AN 'ORGY-LOVING PREACHER'   In the film, viewers...
Sonia Hermosilla, 31, has remained jailed since the August 2011 crime A California mother accused of dropping her disabled infant off a parking garage 10 years ago, killing him, went on trial this week, with prosecutors arguing that she resented him and the defense claiming mental illness. On Tuesday, Orange County Deputy District Attorney Mena Guirguis told jurors that Sonia Hermosillo, 31, whose husband said she suffered postpartum depression following their son's birth in early 2011, wanted the 7-month-old dead. '(He's sick) and that's why I don't love him', police said Hermosillo told them following her August 2011 arrest. She 'would rather he died,' police said.  Prosecutors claimed this week that her husband, Noe Medina, who has forgiven his wife and fully supports her, said, 'She didn’t accept him. She didn’t accept that he was like this.' 'She didn’t look at our son as normal,' he said of Noe Medina Jr.  But Hermosillo's defense argues that the mother was in a state of psychosis at the time, and described her as a dedicated housewife and mom to Noe Jr. as...
The former wife of a millionaire tycoon who faces a six-week jail sentence after failing to pay her maintenance from their £5.8 million divorce battle says she hasn't received a penny from him since their acrimonious split.  Preston Haskell, a Texan and the son of a construction mogul of the same name, is embroiled in a five-year divorce row with the model Alesia Vladimirovna Haskell, which has reached the Court of Appeal in London.  Judges heard that the son who hosted parties for Elton John, Madonna and Cheryl Cole had himself amassed a fortune in property, restaurants and international business, and in 2013 was linked with a bid to buy Coventry City Football Club. Mr Haskell was ordered to pay Alesia £5.8million after their 13-year marriage ended in 2016. The first installment was due in February 2020, but when he failed to pay a High Court judge has jailed him for six weeks if he ever returns to the UK. MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Minnesota man is believed to be the first active-duty Air Force member to die of COVID-19. The family of 36-year-old Michael Morris says he died nearly two weeks after he tested positive for the virus at his home near his base in Italy. His family is still struggling to believe what happened. “The number one thing I noticed was his smile,” Morris’ wife, Amanda recalled. They grew up in separate small Northern Minnesota towns. A sense of service and the drive for a good life sent Michael Morris from Cass Lake into the Air Force alongside Amanda’s brother. “He had just come home for Christmas and he calls me and says well I want to marry you,” Amanda Morris said. For 14 years, she lived as the wife of an active-duty military member. Morris was deployed three times to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. In between deployments, he treasured the time he spent with his three kids. “He was a great father. I never met anybody the way he fathered our kids,” she said. From Moody...
DEAR MISS MANNERS: I’m an adult woman with an extremely loving, wonderful mother. However, my mom’s online persona reflects a different side of her — one that often makes me embarrassed (for her) and appalled by the insensitive smut she posts on social media. For example, she’s posted several memes joking about COVID and its severity; she recently posted something to the effect of “scared little sheep b-tches stay at home.” My husband, son and I caught COVID. My husband was nearly hospitalized. I don’t think this is funny in the slightest, and I feel like she is embarrassing herself: She’s friends with many physicians at the company she works for. Any time I try to even remotely talk to her about anything related to today’s political climate, she says “I don’t want to talk politics” and drops it. Ghislaine Maxwell’s husband called her a “wonderful and loving person” in a letter asking a federal judge to sign off on a $28.5 million bail package, according to newly released court papers. “I have never witnessed anything close to inappropriate with Ghislaine,” wrote tech CEO Scott Borgerson in a letter attached to the bail application. “Quite to the contrary, the Ghislaine I know is a wonderful and loving person.” Although Borgerson’s name is redacted, it has been widely reported that he’s her husband. DEAR ABBY: I have the most wonderful, caring, loving husband any wife could dream of, and together we have a very sweet dog who adores us both but my husband a bit too much, if I may put it that way. After many drinks and a lot of making out we both said we loved each other. Roger walked it back the next day. “I don't know what you thought you heard last night,” he basically said, “but I'm not in love with...
