THOSE who receive SNAP may be alarmed to find their benefits will be lower this spring. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program aims to help needy families access food by offering EBT cards, which can then be used to purchase grocery items at stores nationwide. 1Many families will see lower SNAP payments this year For two years, SNAP recipients saw their emergency food assistance boosted by 15 percent. However, these benefits will be expiring at the end of February because of a new government spending bill. Back in January 2021 until now, families using SNAP also could see a maximum benefit based on their household size, instead of income. But that too will be ending soon. The increased SNAP benefits originally began as Americans braved the coronavirus pandemic, and the idea was to drop the expanded benefits once the public health crisis got under control. DID you welcome a new family member in 2021? If so, additional stimulus funds may be on the way. The government is still working to provide relief to select groups of Americans in the wake of the ongoing Covid crisis. 1More relief may come to some families in 2022Credit: Getty Images - Getty And for those parents and guardians who welcomed or will welcome a child in 2021, there might be another stimulus check in store. Parents received payments for dependents under the American Rescue Plan, which means $1,400 was paid out for each child. However, some couples had not welcomed their newborn when the Plan was enacted. Those parents will then be eligible to declare their new dependent upon filing their 2021 taxes. It should be noted that there is no limit to the number of new dependents claimed, meaning that parents who welcomed more than one newborn will be able to receive multiple payments. There were around 3.6million births in 2020, with the number expected to be fairly similar for this year. Most read in MoneyCASH ON THE WAY...

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- New COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the state have flattened after a steady two-month decline that saw California boast the nation's lowest infection rate. Now, L.A. County is seeing more cases as its vaccine mandate is set to go into effect next week.On Thursday, the county was reporting 20 new COVID deaths along with 1,887 new cases. The county's public health director, Barbara Ferrer, urged residents to get vaccinated and continue wearing masks during a news conference on Thursday."Given that there is still considerable transmission, along with the risk that changing conditions favor easier spread of COVID as more activities move indoors, and more people travel, and gather to celebrate holidays, it remains important for us to maintain additional layers of protection," she said.Ferrer also took time to address confusion circulating the county's vaccine mandate for public businesses, which is set to begin next week. She said the mandate will apply in both the county and the city of Los Angeles.Earlier this month, the county already began imposing COVID vaccination requirements at indoor portions of bars, wineries,...

AMERICANS with children will receive their next stimulus check on October 15 as part of the 2021 child tax credit. The credit was implemented in July by President Joe Biden, who included it in the $1.9trillion American Rescue Plan. 1The next child tax credit payment will be issued on October 15, 2021.Credit: Getty The IRS website provides additional information to confirm if citizens are eligible for the tax credit through a three-step questionnaire. The first question asks whether the applicant claimed “the child tax credit on their most recent tax return” and whether they will claim it on their 2021 tax return. A follow-up question then asks where the applicant’s main home was located for the majority of 2019 or 2020. The question specifies if the applicant lived in either “any of the 50 states of the District of Columbia,” “US military facility,” “US territory,” or “foreign address.” If the applicant resided in a US territory or foreign address during that time, they are not eligible for the child tax credit, whereas residents living in a US military facility,...

SOME two-thirds of California residents will soon be getting $1,100 checks in the mail after the California tax board announced it will begin distributing close to $500 million starting next week. Starting on Tuesday, October 5, the California Franchise Tax Board will start sending $1,100 stimulus checks to Californians making less than $75,000 in adjusted gross income. 2About two-thirds of California residents will soon be getting $1,100 checks in the mail California Governor Gavin Newsom's office estimated that approximately two-thirds of the state's population will receive the payments under the Golden State Stimulus II. Once next week's payments are distributed, the state will have paid out over $2.33 billion in pandemic aid to Californians. The state's first stimulus program began distributing $600 to $1200 checks for low-income residents who claimed California's Earned Income Tax Credit, largely residents who earn less than $30,000 annually. The additional $600 payments were for qualifying children or...
