    CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Park District announced Tuesday it is planning to open 37 indoor and outdoor pools across the city by July 5.The district said in a press release it has only secured 55% of the targeted number of lifeguards, so they are limiting access to some beach areas to redeploy lifeguards.Access will be limited to small, underutilized portions of North Avenue Beach and Calumet Beach to divert lifeguards to neighborhood pools. In addition, due to ongoing construction, swimming at 12th Street Beach will be prohibited.The district will open four larger pools at Portage Park, Humboldt Park, McKinley Park and Norwood Park to accommodate more visitors.     CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man accused of killing a woman after assaulting her in front of her children has been captured in Chicago, authorities said.He was taken into custody in the West Englewood neighborhood's 5600 block of South Elizabeth Street, police said.Terry Jackson, also known as "Scooter Man," allegedly assaulted two women, including Brittany Booker, with a claw hammer in Racine, Wisconsin on February 27. The Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force's Milwaukee office issued arrest warrants the offense.Jackson then entered Booker's home almost two months later on April 24, the Racine Police Department said. Police said Jackson assaulted Booker in her home with her children present before forcing Booker from her home and into her vehicle.Booker was later found dead inside her vehicle with a gunshot wound to her head, police said. Jackson has been charged in Booker's homicide.The fugitive investigation for Jackson spanned five states, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Texas and Arizona, before ultimately returning to Chicago, where Jackson was located and arrested on Sunday morning, police said.Police said Jackson was seen in a window of a home with...
    CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three men were shot early Sunday on the city's West Side, the Chicago Police Department said.The shooting happened in the Austin neighborhood's 4700 block of West Maypole Street at about 1:30 a.m., Chicago police said.Police responded to a call of shots fired and found three men in a garage who were all shot. A 34-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the groin and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.A 36-year-old mam sustained one gsw to the ankle and was transported to Mt. Sinai where he is listed in good condition. A 33 year old male sustained one gsw to the neck and is listed in fair condition at Stroger.     CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago police officer shot and critically injured a carjacking suspect Wednesday night on the city's West Side.Chicago police were trying to stop a stolen vehicle wanted in connection with a carjacking from a neighboring suburb just before 10:15 p.m. in the 800-block of North Cicero Avenue, near Chicago Avenue, but as officers approached the vehicle, a suspect fled on foot, CPD said.An officer then shot the suspect, according to Chicago police.
