The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to return to the Super Bowl. Here’s the last time the NFC East team hoisted the Lombardi Trophy.

Everything worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. General manager Howie Roseman made a variety of big moves to bolster their roster, including the likes of wide receiver A.

J. Brown, linebacker Haason Reddick, and cornerback James Bradberry. They clinched the top seed in the NFC, thanks in part to the NFL MVP-caliber play of Jalen Hurts, the rushing attack, and their defense. They earned the first-round bye in the playoffs, and they dismantled the rival New York Giants 38-7 in the Divisional Round.

Now, the Eagles are a win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game away from reaching Super Bowl 57.

For those wondering when the last time Philadelphia won the Lombardi Trophy, you don’t have to look too far back.

When was the last time the Eagles won the Super Bowl?

The Eagles last won the Super Bowl was back in the 2017 season.

Philadelphia was one of the best teams in the NFL that year, but they had to overcome a season-ending knee injury suffered by quarterback Carson Wentz, who was playing like the NFL MVP favorite. The team leaned upon Nick Foles to start under center for the rest of their season, and it paid off tremendously.

After beating the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings, the Eagles clinched their spot in Super Bowl 52, where they had to face off against the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots. It was a duel between Brady and Foles, but it was the Eagles defense who clinched the 41-33 victory after a strip sack by Brandon Graham.

Foles won the Super Bowl MVP after completing 28-of-43 pass attempts for 373 yards and three touchdowns, while catching a one-yard touchdown pass on the famous “Philly Special” play call by head coach Doug Pederson.

How many times have the Eagles won the Super Bowl?

Philadelphia has only won the Lombardi Trophy once in their franchise’s history.

Prior to their run in 2017, Philadelphia made it to the big game two other times. Back in the 1980 season, the Eagles made it to Super Bowl 15, but lost to the then-Oakland Raiders. Their other trip occurred in the 2004 season, but they ended up on the losing end to the Patriots in Super Bowl 39.

Here are the full results to each of the Eagles’ Super Bowl appearances:

  • Super Bowl 15: Lost vs. Raiders 27-10
  • Super Bowl 39: Lost vs. Patriots 24-21
  • Super Bowl 52: Won vs. Patriots 41-33
