Miami upset in absolute shocker by Middle Tennessee: College football media reacts

Miami football got completely humbled by giant underdog Middle Tennessee State and the college football media let them have it.

Miami football is definitely not back.

We pretty much knew that last week when the Hurricanes dropped a game to Texas A&M but things got much, much worse this week.

Middle Tennessee State came to town and walloped Miami, 45-31. It was not that close either as the Blue Raiders led by 21 in the second quarter and never let the Hurricanes get close enough to threaten them.

College football media reacts to Miami upset vs. Middle Tennessee

Miami fans were ruthless ripping head coach Mario Cristobal in the first half. Once the game was over, the college football media on Twitter went in on the Hurricanes as well.

Middle Tennessee State is now 3-0 all-time against Miami.

Thats the most wins without a loss by any team against Miami in its programs history.

Massive day for the Blue Raiders.

Middle Tennessee’s win vs. Miami is their first ranked win EVER.

They were 0-21 vs. ranked teams since joining FBS ????

What is funnier

that Miami is 0-3 against Middle Tennessee State

that Notre Dame is a combined 0-3 against UConn, Tulsa and Marshall

or that Alabama is 0-3 against Rice

There aren’t many mysteries or miracles in college football. Miami has the roster talent of a second-tier ACC team which means they play like one. This has been true for 15 years. Everything else is overthinking it.

MTSU in V formation at Miami is something I never thought Id tweet.

Middle Tennessee goes to Miami, gets $1.5 million guarantee — plus another $40,000 for travel expenses — and gets 45-31 win over 25th-ranked Hurricanes.

— Steve Berkowitz (@ByBerkowitz) September 24, 2022

MTSU was supposed to get a payday and a whooping. Instead, they got the payday and enjoyed a dominant victory over a once-storied program.

For Miami, it’s clear Cristobal and company need a lot of work. There was plenty of hype coming into the season but they are not ready to contend for the ACC title.

The task is now to salvage the rest of the season. Putting the feeling of these last two weeks behind them will require some immediate improvement.

Next week they get North Carolina coming off their own demoralizing loss to Notre Dame. They’ll face tests against Florida State and Duke and close the season with back-to-back matchups against Clemson and Pitt.

Playing like they did against MTSU they won’t get many wins but there is time to turn things around and salvage the campaign.
