ST. LOUIS — What had started as an emotional homecoming ended as a disastrous loss for the Yankees. Hours after Matt Carpenter had been welcomed back to Busch Stadium with a standing ovation from the 46,940 fans, Clay Holmes coughed up a one-run lead in the eighth and the Cardinals rallied for a 4-3 win in the opener of the three-game series between the two iconic franchises.

The Yankees (70-37) have lost three straight. It was just the fourth time this season they have lost after taking a lead into the eighth inning. They have lost three of their last five games and are 6-9 since coming out of the All-Star Break and hold just a .5 game lead over the Astros for the best record in the American League.

Holmes gave up a one-out, infield single to Nolan Arenado and then walked Tyler O’Neill with two outs. Paul DeJong lined a sinker into right field to drive in two runs. It was the first time this season Holmes has allowed runs in back to back games, having given up three runs against the Royals on Sunday.  The blown lead Friday was the fourth lead he has surrendered in his last 10 appearances. Over his last nine appearances, Holmes, who had a 31-inning scoreless streak earlier this season, has allowed nine earned runs.

That spoiled another solid start from Nestor Cortes, who allowed two earned runs on one hit and four walks. He struck out four in 5.1 innings pitched. It was his third start of five or more innings having allowed one run or less.

Aaron Judge and Josh Donaldson each had two hits. It was Judge’s 36th multi-hit game of the season, the most in the majors. Andrew Benintendi, who was 1-for-23 as a Yankee, hit a two-out double in the eighth. It was his first hit to get out of the infield.

With Judge aboard in the first, Carpenter came to the plate to an extended standing ovation. Then he did what he could not do all too often the last two years he was here; he had a productive at-bat.

Carpenter singled him into scoring position and the Yankees slugger scored on Donaldson’s double off the right-field wall. In the third, Carpenter singled again.

A three-time All-Star and career .263/ .369/.457 hitter who hit 36 homers in 2018, left  St. Louis after two seasons hitting under .200 and with seven homers in 180 games. The Cardinals bought out the option on his contract and Carpenter spent the winter working — at times with old teammate Matt Holiday — and then on a minor league contract with the Rangers to revamp his swing.

“I’m thankful that I’ve found success again. I think a big part of that was going back down to AAA and playing every day and having success again,” Carpenter said. “I put in constant hours and worked like crazy while I was here and just kept getting punched in the mouth every time I went out there. The success wasn’t coming.”

Carpenter came back to Busch Stadium hitting .322/.435/.791 with a 1.226 OPS and 15 home runs.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” Carpenter said. That’s a really good team, obviously a really good team, a really good clubhouse. I wouldn’t say I was surprised but I said earlier I think that success certainly leaves footprints and similarities between these two organizations are pretty remarkable.

“Being in that clubhouse over there, it doesn’t feel much different than when I was over here,” Carpenter continued. “Just as far as the way that both teams prepare. Both teams are committed to winning. There’s some superstars in that clubhouse, and there’s no egos everybody’s on the same page. Everybody’s pulling for each other and just committed to winning. So it’s been pretty cool to get to see that. When you’ve spent your whole career in one place,  you just assume that we’re unique and special and nobody else can do this. And then we go somewhere else that has a pretty good thing going as well.  I think it’s pretty obvious both these organizations have been so good for so long because they do a lot of similar things.”

Brett Kavanaugh assassination suspect said he was a sissy slave and trans gamer girl named Sophie in online posts, asked how to take out high-value targets: Report

The AmericanNick user said, "Hi my name is Sophie."

Roske posted numerous personal ads on Reddit, desperately seeking companionship.

In one ad, Roske purportedly said he was a "Trans Girl looking for other Girl Gamers" to "chill" or play video games.

A year ago, Roske allegedly said he was a 25-year-old "Trans Girl" seeking a "movie buddy."

Several Reddit posts allegedly show the Kavanaugh assassination suspect posing as a "male-to-female" seeking a female.

In the subreddit titled "Sissy Personals," the AmericanNick account posted, "Seattle Sissy Seeking Female for Training." Another post is in search of a "Domme."

"The suspect, listing himself as a 'Trans Girl' in the city's University District, struck a more erotic tone with his approach in another Reddit post soliciting 'Another Girl for Play/Friendship' on a recurring basis," TownHall reported. "Roske, then 25, divulged that he has 'many kinks and only a few limits' but would 'enjoy some vanilla time' as well. 'I have done a lot of research and have some experience being both a sub and a domme,' Roske typed."

The outlet added, "In an explicit Reddit post, Roske desired one such 'Daddy to Have Complete Sexual Control Over Me.'"

Roske – who is believed to be a pro-abortion extremist for allegedly wanting to assassinate the pro-life Justice Kavanaugh – allegedly wanted to abort every single baby in the womb.

"I think that something as significant as consciousness should not be imposed no matter (the person before they gain consciousness) without consent, and as a non-conscious person cannot give consent, being born is inherently done without consent," Redditor AmericanNick7 wrote seven years ago.

"In addition, as a negative utilitarian, I wish for suffering to be reduced as much as possible," the Reddit user said. "If abortion were mandatory for pregnant women, no new people would be born, and thus no new people would experience suffering. If no new people are born, humanity will end and thus human suffering will end."

The user concluded, "I am aware how radical this view is, but I do hold it sincerely."

TownHall reported, "Last year, Roske called for the redistribution of wealth in America on a leftist anti-capitalist subreddit. On 'r/LateStageCapitalism,' Roske uploaded a pie chart of progressive causes that can be aided by $3.2 trillion from 400 of the richest Americans, including paying for paid annual family leave, wiping out delinquent medical debt, handing out $10,000 to every American household, and vaccinating 'the world' against COVID-19."

Roske also believes "America hates black people more than it loves guns," per his last Reddit comment.

Last year, Roske reportedly asked in three different subreddits if someone with borderline personality disorder could work at the FBI.

According to the report, Roske used his "Narrow_Frosting_1539" Reddit account in May to ask the r/TacticalGear subreddit, "What is a good place to get a kevlar vest?"

On May 30, Roske allegedly went on the U.S. Marine Corps subreddit and posted the question: "How difficult is it to covertly take out an HVT [the U.S. military abbreviation for 'high-value target']?"

When asked about the circumstances, Roske purportedly replied, "A house in a medium-density residential area. Let's say 1-4 people for security. Nightime. Some equipment but not cutting edge. So portable thermal imaging but not a whole surveillance team. So it would be one operator working essentially alone."

In the "Political Discussion" subreddit, the Narrow_Frosting_1539 account asked on May 20, "What will likely happen if the current Supreme Court remains? What would change if the democrats got a majority?"

The Redditor adds, "The Roe v Wade leak has brought a lot of attention to the supreme court and what it is capable of. If going into the future the Supreme Court retains the same members, what is a realistic expectation for the future? On the other hand, if a conservative judge were replaced by a liberal judge, thus changing which party has the majority, what would change? I am curious both about the immediate results (over the next few years) and long term (the next few decades)."
