The UFC Vegas 59 fighter to watch is Bryan Battle.

UFC Vegas 59 is not a deep card if you’re looking for name value. The top stars are 38-year-old Thiago Santos, who’s 1-4 in his last five, and his opponent in rising fighter Jamahal Hill. Not a star-studded main event, though the semi-main has hope with Geoff Neal taking on Vicente Luque.

Yes, that’s it in regards to name value, but the good news is that cards like this usually deliver on the undercard or in the preliminaries, such as with fighters like Bryan Battle.

Battle is our UFC Vegas 59 fighter to watch, but why? Well, we usually select lesser-known, up-and-comers for these, and Battle is an up-and-comer. He’s 7-1, with his lone loss coming in his second-pro fight, just 51 seconds in when he got caught with an armbar submission. Save for that misstep he’s looked incredible.

He’s not just a solid prospect record-wise, but five of his seven wins have come via finishes. He’s got four subs and one KO/TKO. He’s already 2-0 in the UFC and is looking to make it 3-0 at UFC Vegas 59 against his opponent Takashi Sato.

So is his performance, record, or finish rate why he got tabbed to be the fighter to watch for UFC Vegas 59? No, it was his nickname, “Pooh Bear”.

Oh, bother.

Bryan Battle could really make an impact at UFC Vegas 59

Battle’s career is shaping up nicely and if his amateur and exhibition bouts are any sign of what to expect from this man, it’s going to be finishers galore. Counting his amateur bouts, he’s only gotten to the third round four times.

He’s failed to pass the second round every time as a pro safe for his first bout against Zachary Dalen and his latest, against Tresean Gore. Battle knows he isn’t paid by the hour and fights just like it. He’s not over-aggressive, but he does know how to finish you when he has you set up for something.

With eight subs over his pro and amateur careers, you can bet that he’ll look to tap Sato the minute has a chance to. This fight may not be on the main card, but it may just be the fight to watch.

Intense video shows the moment Las Vegas smoke shop owner stabs would-be thief: I was in a fight or flight mode

"I was in a fight or flight mode… a lot of adrenaline going through my body,” Nguyen added.

"I honestly don't recall what I was thinking," Nguyen told KSNV. "I assumed they had guns on them."

Nguyen revealed that he plans to purchase a gun for the store in the event that his store is robbed again.

"I don’t know who they're friends with, maybe they want to come back and do something else, so I just must stay vigilant," Nguyen said.

Nguyen told KLAS-TV, “I don’t think he planned on getting stabbed that day obviously, but if you try robbing a store you are taking a risk. This is a small business obviously."

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said they had arrested two juveniles involved in the attempted robbery of the Smokestrom Smoke Shop in Las Vegas.

The would-be robber was taken to a local hospital after the foiled robbery attempt. Authorities did not reveal the health of the would-be thief who was stabbed.

No charges have been filed against Nguyen at the time of publication.
