Brian Kelly challenges LSU football wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to be the best in the game.
Not to say there is trouble brewing within Brian Kelly’s LSU football family, but he is just getting started when it comes to firing up Kayshon Boutte ahead of their first season working together.
Kelly may be a fish out of water in SEC country, but the man knows how to win, and win big.LSU is one of the best programs in the nation. While it may take some time for Kelly to figure out how to recruit the talent-rich state of Louisiana, it starts with getting his best player ready for the season ahead. He used the media to challenge Boutte to go out and be the best wide receiver in the land.
“You can see his potential,” said Kelly about Boutte. “Can he be the best receiver in the country? I think he can be. But he’s going to have to go out and do it.”

LSU football: Brian Kelly challenges Kayshon Boutte to be the best WR in CFB
In two years with the Bayou Bengals, Boutte has a combined 83 catches for 1,244 yards and 14 trips to pay dirt. While he was an ever-present part of the Tigers’ disastrous 2020 season, he only played in six games a year ago. Simply, Boutte has all the talent in the world to be the next Ja’Marr Chase, Jordan Jefferson, Jarvis Landry or Odell Beckham Jr. in LSU uniform. Will he capitalize on it?
Kelly has kept it incredibly close to the vest as to who will be his team’s starting quarterback. Sure, Boutte will presumably flourish, regardless of whoever throws him the ball. However, LSU is not going to be anything close to a 10-2 team or something of that nature if Boutte is not an all-conference performer for the Bayou Bengals. He can become a legend or he can be just a guy…
Ultimately, it remains to be seen how Boutte gels with his new head coach. He did not commit to play for Kelly out of high school. Any native Louisianan dreams of donning the white LSU jersey on a Baton Rouge Saturday night. However, things will be decidedly different with a complete and total outside now in charge of one of college football’s greatest and most prestigious programs.
If the duo can bond together over football and winning, then LSU has a shot to make some noise.Next: College Football Rankings: FanSided Preseason Top 50
