MANCHESTER UNITED could have signed transfer target Benjamin Sesko for just £3MILLION back in 2019 but felt the price was too high, according to reports.
The Red Devils are one of a number of Premier League clubs currently being linked with the RB Salzburg striker - whose price tag is rumoured to be in the region of £55m.2Sesko is being chased by a host of Premier League clubs this summerCredit: Rex 2Ten Hag is trying to bring in Sesko before the transfer window closesCredit: AFP
But Man Utd could have saved themselves a whole heap of cash had they chosen to sign him three years ago.
The Slovenian forward, 19, left his home country to join Salzburg in 2019 and has gone on to net 13 times in 41 games for the Austrian outfit.
According to The Athletic, United had the opportunity to sign him back then when he was just 16, but felt the £3m fee was "excessive".
Now they are chasing his signature despite the price being more than £50m higher - with Sesko still under contract for another four years.READ MORE IN FOOTBALLRED DEVILS LATEST Rice and Jude Bellingham eyed with De Jong in limbo, Ronaldo could START
United are keen to compensate for the possibility of Ronaldo leaving this summer.
The Portuguese superstar has made it clear his desire to carry on playing Champions League football - something he will not be getting at Old Trafford this season.
A loan move to Sporting Lisbon is one of the only options on the table as he tries to find a suitable exit.
But Erik ten Hag will want to act swiftly if Ronaldo does depart as he has already been hit with a selection issue. Most read in Premier LeagueDIET DANGERS The top 5 worst foods that could SHORTEN your life expectancyVLADIM-EAR 'Sickly' Putin using body double with different EARS, claims UkraineTHIN KIM Kardashian fans fear for Kim's health as she looks 'skinnier than EVER' in picsHOUSE OF HORRORS Mom & son's dismembered bodies found after kidnapped daughter's escape

Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial are not expected to feature against Brighton in their season opener on Sunday due to illness and injury.
Marcus Rashford could lead the line, but the more likely move is to bring an unhappy Ronaldo back in from the cold.
United may feel the signing of Sesko can help alleviate some of those concerns in the final third.
However, he has also been linked with a move to Newcastle or Chelsea, so Ten Hag could yet miss out on him if a bidding war gets underway.

And fearing he might be out-muscled in the English game, the skillful playmaker has revealed that he used to target "big" players in training to ensure he would not be bullied in matches.
Fernandes told Soccer AM: "I like to mess with the big ones so you get used to being bullied in the games.
"One of the ones I would always mess about with was Eric Bailly.
"Always in training, I would play as a No 10 and he would play as a centre-back and he has to jump on me.READ MORE ON MAN UTDUNITED NEWS Carragher labels Ferdinand a Ronaldo 'fan boy', Leicester 'want' Van de Beek
"I was always playing one-touch and he kicked me so many times.
"And every time that I pass the ball to do a one-two he would always put me on the ground."
Ivory Coast's 6ft 2in centre-half Bailly joined the Red Devils from Villarreal in 2016.
The 28-year-old was sent on a season-long loan to Marseille in the summer at the start of Erik ten Hag's reign as new United boss.

Recalling their training ground tussles, Fernandes added: "He used to say, 'Every time you get the ball - the first touch - I have to put you on the ground or you will run away from me'.
"Even on the training ground, I would know he is coming and instead of moving backwards, I would run forward so he can't kick me!"Topics
