CHICAGO (WLS) -- The mother of Cecelia Thomas, a 5-month-old girl who was killed in a drive-by shooting, spoke publicly for the first time about the incident that claimed her young daughter's life.
She was determined to speak for her child and did so outside the hospital where she said her final goodbye.
"Cecilia was gorgeous," said the baby's mother, Juanita Harris.
Harris is a mother in pain.
"She didn't even have her first birthday, like she didn't make age 6 months," she said.
Refusing to let her grief break her, angrily pleaded for those responsible to come forward, with her 3-year-old son and street pastor and community activist, Donovan Price, at her side.
"Cecelia was a part of us. She was our child," Donovan said.
It's been just over a week since the child was killed when police say someone inside another vehicle shot at their car as the family traveled in the 7700 block of South Shore Drive.
Harris, Cecelia's father, and Harris' 3-year-old son Kemone were all in the vehicle, taking the boy to his aunt's house when the June 24 attack happened.
The baby was struck in the head and died a few hours later.
"When you'll out here shooting, know who you are shooting at. Know your target. You got the wrong people," Harris said.
Amid her sorrow, there is anger as her daughter becomes Chicago's youngest victim of gun violence so far this year.
She wants the shooter to do the right thing.
"It's eating you up inside. You see me. The same pain I'm feeling, you need to turn yourself in," Harris said.
Meanwhile, as a mother, Harris struggles with not only how to pay for her baby's funeral but also how to exist a future without her little girl.
"We need answers," Harris reiterated.
Police are still looking for whoever is responsible for what the family calls a case of mistaken identity. So far, no one is in custody and no arrests have been made.
COmmunity activist Ja'Mal Green, who is running for Chicago mayor, has offered a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to call 1-800-883-5587.

In a rare post on his Instagram Stories, Ryan shared a message to his followers that seemed to point toward his own battles with addiction.
The message read: "Before you judge an addict, put your phone down for 24 hrs. Everytime [sic] you think about it. That's what it feels like."
A concerned fan re-shared the post in an online thread, where others wondered if Ryan was trying to reach out for help.
One person commented: "Sadly, true. I hope this means he’s actually seeking to heal his mental health rather than use it to give him a victim complex."Read More on Ryan EdwardsCAMERA SHY! A second user questioned: "What's his motive to post this now, after never posting anything like this? To make someone around him feel sorry for him and forgive him? Point the finger at someone?
"Should he have decided he wants to use his experiences and platform to create awareness, this would not be a logical first post, I think," they concluded.
Another fan sympathized with the ex-MTV star: "This may be the most honest thing Ryan has ever said."
A third agreed: "As a recovering alcoholic, I agree with him. While a fourth asked: "Is this him owning up to his addiction?? He’s taking responsibility?!"
Several others commended the Teen Mom alum for "acknowledging" his addiction issues on the public platform.
"It only takes one time to get sober. If he has relapsed and is admitting now that he has an addiction, I am rooting for him. Bentley deserves it," one remarked.
"I feel like this is the first we have heard from him really acknowledging his addiction," chimed in another.ADDICTION BATTLE
Ryan has had an ongoing struggle with drugs, has been to rehab several times, and had multiple drug-related arrests.
In September 2019, he discussed his heroin use with Dr. Drew during a reunion special and admitted he doesn't remember when he started to use the drug but "never" went back to using anything else.
As for his sobriety, Ryan said at the time: "Unfortunately, I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow.
"So I can't sit here and say, 'Oh, I'll be sober for the rest of my life.'
"I don't know that, but I would love to be, and I'm willing to do pretty much whatever it's going to take."
Ryan's addiction issues also strained his relationship with his eldest son, Bentley, 13, whom he shares with his ex-Maci Bookout, 31.
Fans have watched Ryan and Maci's contentious co-parenting relationship on-screen with Ryan's drug use and lack of connection with his son their main battles.FIRED STAR
Their issues spilled into a blowout fight during a reunion special last year between Ryan's father and Maci's husband, Taylor McKinney, 33.
The argument led to Ryan and his entire family being fired from the show by MTV producers, although Maci and Taylor were not penalized.
Maci and Taylor have continued to film with Bentley and their three other children: Jayde, six, and Maverick, five.
Meanwhile, Ryan has stayed out of the limelight with his wife, Mackenzie, 25, and their two kids: Jagger, three, and Stella, two.
Last month, Ryan appeared in a rare photo shared by his wife on Instagram of the pair at a concert.
