Adele has revealed how the 'brutal' fan backlash prompted by the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency in January left her feeling like a 'shell of a person'.

She describes dealing with the fallout from the decision to ditch three months of performances as being akin to 'grieving'.

'The reaction was brutal, brutal,' she tells Desert Island Discs on Radio 4 today.

'I was a shell of a person for a couple of months. I just had to wait it out and just grieve it, I guess – just grieve the shows and get over the guilt. But it was brutal.'

The London-born singer, best known for hits such as Rolling In The Deep, Skyfall, Hello and Easy On Me, pulled the plug on the shows at Caesars Palace on January 20 – 24 hours before they were due to begin.

Adele has revealed how the 'brutal' fan backlash prompted by the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency in January left her feeling like a 'shell of a person'

The star was reportedly unhappy with the staging, which involved her singing the songs in a mocked-up swimming pool. But her decision infuriated fans, many of whom had forked out thousands to travel long distances to the gigs.

A defiant Adele – who performed over the past two nights in London's Hyde Park – says the decision to cancel the shows was not an easy one, but on balance she thought it had been the right thing to do.

She adds: 'I definitely felt everyone's disappointment and I was devastated, and I was frightened about letting them down and I thought I could pull it together and make it work and I couldn't – and I stand by that decision.

'You can't buy me – you can't buy me for nothing. I'm not going to just do a show because I have to or because people are going to be let down or because we're going to lose loads of money. I'm like, 'The show's not good enough.' '

The Grammy and Oscar winner also talks about how she 'felt terrible' after her seven-stone weight loss upset some of her body- conscious younger fans.

The singer, who showed off her newly svelte figure on the cover of Vogue magazine last year, says she was distressed to learn that losing 100 lb in weight had caused some fans to suffer. 'I did it on the quiet for myself,' she says.

'But I felt terrible for some people that felt other people's comments meant they weren't looking good or that they weren't beautiful.'

But the 34-year-old megastar dismisses accusations levelled at her on social media that her transformation meant she had caved into societal pressure.

'Some of the ones I saw were young, they were like 15. There were some other people that felt very betrayed by me, like, 'Oh, she is giving into the pressure of it', which didn't really bother me.

'Because, like, you ain't holding my hand at night at 4am when I'm crying my heart out with anxiety and needing a distraction and stuff like that.'

She says that despite her setbacks she has discovered a new sense of peace in her life partly thanks to 'a lot of therapy'.

She adds: 'I don't put myself in situations any more that drain me. I'm going to walk away from it. I choose people very, very carefully now who are in my life.'

Famed for spending years at a time out of the public eye, Adele says her new partner, American sports agent Rich Paul, had helped her to become less of a 'recluse'.

The star – who has an amicable relationship with ex-husband Simon Konecki, the father of her nine-year-old son Angelo – says she wants more children.

'I definitely would like a couple more kids. It would be wonderful if we can. If not, I've got Angelo.'

The star says the fact that she still suffers from severe stage fright is proof to herself that she still cares about her performances, adding: 'When I don't feel like that [nervous] then I'm done. I won't do it any more.'

lAdele appears on Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4 today at 11.15am, and the programme will be repeated at 9am on Friday.

Case Keenum pranks Bills teammates as undercover fan seeking autographs

Buffalo Bills backup quarterback Case Keenum goes undercover to get teammates’ autographs.

Case Keenum is your undercover Buffalo brother.

Blessed with a bucket hat, a slick pair of shades and a credential from circa 2019, Keenum decided he needed to get all of his new Buffalo Bills teammates to sign his football unknowingly. More incognito than Bills legend Richie Incognito, Keenum played many of his teammates for a fool. From Josh Allen to his Minneapolis Miracle man Stefon Diggs, look who won’t get fooled again…

I can’t explain, but I think it’s love of all things Bills football that drove Keenum to pull this off.

Original Prankster Case Keenum had Bills teammates signing autographs for him

I know the Bills want to hit that blocking sled so badly, but the kids aren’t alright after what transpired over 13 seconds at Arrowhead in January. Keenum wasn’t there, but he saw what happened from the comfort of his couch somewhere on the other side of Lake Erie. Not to say he swam across the whole thing, but it would not have been as impressive as his autographing skills.

There’s a reason why folding tables always seem to be out of stock in Western New York. It’s the same reason why the only way to get yourself a healthy supply of condiments is to venture into your closest Costco. As a new card-carrying member of Bills Mafia, Keenum is about to learn a life of close, but no cigar in the Great Lakes region. Then again, he did play for the Minnesota Vikings…

Admittedly, the only way Keenum’s stunt would have been any better is if he held up a freaking baby and had his teammates sign the child like Ricky Bobby after he went fast around the track. Hashtag Shake and Bake, no doubt, but there is doubt if Buffalo will finally do something it never has before this year. Win the Super Bowl. According to the oddsmakers, they are first, not last.

If Buffalo does win the Super Bowl, let’s hope the Buffalonian parade cops don’t confuse Keenum for a fan like those ATLiens did Tyler Matzek. Like Matzek, Keenum tucks his pen into his sock.
