OSCAR Pistorius has met the dad of his ex-girlfriend Reena Steenkamp, whose murder he was jailed for, it has emerged.
The 35-year-old Pistorius was convicted of murdering Reeva, 29, in 2015 and ultimately sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison.4Pistorius was jailed for the murder of Reeva SteenkampCredit: AP 4Reeva and her killer pictured at an award ceremony in JohannesburgCredit: AP
The athlete - who was known as the Blade Runner - has now became eligible for parole under South African law after serving half his sentence.
In order to qualify for release, prisoners must “acknowledge and take responsibility for their actions”.
A lawyer for Reena's parents June and Barry Steenkamp said Pistorius took part in a process known as victim-offender dialogue.
Tania Koen confirmed Barry Steenkamp and Pistorius "participated in a victim-offender dialogue on 22 June 2022" but said she would make no more comment.READ MORE ON OSCAR PISTORIUS'WE FORGIVE' Family of Reeva Steenkamp have forgiven her killer Oscar Pistorius
At the end of last year it emerged Pistorius sent a “distressing” letter to the Steenkamps.
They described the the Paralympian's gold medalist’s letter as “like ripping a Band-Aid off a wound”.
The couple’s lawyer Tania Coen would not disclose the content of the letters.
“It was quite emotionally distressing for them. They did not know it was coming and it was sent to me by his attorney.”
The Steenkamps had said they want a face-to-face meeting with Pistorius before he is considered for early release from prison, as is their right under South Africa's victim-offender dialogue policy. Most read in US NewsRETRACING SON'S STEPS Brian Laundrie's dad RETURNS to scene where son's remains foundBRAINWASHED Chilling CIA experiment that inspired Stranger Things destroyed my fatherIN COLD BLOOD Huge update in case of CEO shot dead as he lay in bed after suspect arrestedGRIM END 'Killer' husband arrested after 'playing wife music as he slit her throat'
They have previously said they want to challenge Pistorius on why he shot their daughter.
“Yes, they want to do that face to face,” said Koen.
“Barry has said for years he wants to meet Oscar and he has questions to ask.
"They are not emotionally prepared, but are prepared to meet Oscar.
“They accept the day will come when Oscar will be eligible for parole and they would give their input.”
A parole hearing for Pistorius was scheduled for October 2021 and then cancelled, partly because a meeting between Pistorius and the Steenkamps had not been arranged.
Koen slammed the way they had been treated saying: “What was also very upsetting was the disregard for their emotional wellbeing.
“They had to find out the parole board had already convened a date for parole and never advised them about it.”
The multiple Paralympic champion was initially found guilty of culpable homicide - an offence comparable to manslaughter - for killing Reeva.
The Paralympian shot her four times through his bathroom door on Valentine's Day 2013.
He claimed at his trial it was a tragic accident and he mistook her for a dangerous intruder.
But prosecutors appealed the manslaughter finding and secured a murder conviction.Read More on The SunBUMPING ALONG My baby bump is so big people think it’s fake - giving birth terrifies me
Pistorius was sentenced to six years in jail for murder but prosecutors again appealed what they called a shockingly light punishment for murder.

Conor Benn out to ‘set the score straight’ with Chris Eubank Jr after his dad’s controversial draw in 1993 rematch

That ended a draw, following Eubank's brutal win three years earlier, although several felt Nigel deserved the nod.
And with a trilogy failing to materialise, Benn is ready for redemption when the family feud is renewed three decades later.
He said: "Dad had a draw the last fight, we know he should have won. I'm just going to go in there and handle business and I settle the score."
Benn, 25, will have to jump up 10lb from his usual 147lb weight class with the the bout set at 157lb.READ MORE IN BOXINGI'D GLOVE TO Eubank wants his dad in corner for Benn fight but reveals he's 'gone missing'
Eubank Jr, 32, on the other hand is a career middleweight at 160lb, who has even campaigned as high as 168lb.
The weight disparity has meant the two will meet between the 154lb light-middleweight and middleweight limit.
And due to Eubank's superior size, a rehydration clause limiting him to what he can weigh the next morning has been put in place.

Eubank Jr said: "I can't be 100 per cent when I have to go down to a weight I've never been to and then I can't rehydrate fully.
"That's fair, because if I'm 100 per cent it's a public execution, I have to be at a disadvantage to make the fight reasonable.
"I'll be 60 per cent on the night, and that will be enough to do whatever I want with you."4Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn fight at a 157lb catchweightCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
