LOS ANGELES (AP) — When Bay Area-rapper Saweetie learned she was nominated for two Grammys, including best new artist, the competitive nature she learned from growing up in an athletic household came out in full force.

Her grandfather, Willie Harper, played for the San Francisco 49ers and her father played football in college.

“I played football, track and volleyball,” Saweetie told The Associated Press, which has named her one of its Breakthrough Entertainers of 2021. “You might be invited to the playoffs, but you have to win. So I felt like I was invited to the Grammys, but have to win.”

Saweetie, who is also nominated for best rap song for “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat, has claimed her title as an icy queen, a swaggering rapper whose sharp lyrics placed her in the ring alongside seasoned veterans. Over the last three years, she’s landed three Top 40 hits, including “Best Friend,” “Tap In” and “My Type,” has her own McDonald’s meal and became a TikTok meme.

All that success over a couple of years came from a hard work ethic instilled by her family. Her mother, Trinidad Valentin, was 17 when Saweetie was born and had a career as an actress in music videos, but she insisted that her daughter finish college. Saweetie graduated from University of Southern California with a degree in communications.

“I’m really appreciative of her pushing me to go because when I was in college, I didn’t appreciate it,” she said.

Meanwhile her father, Johnny Harper, would encourage her to show off her rap skills whenever his friends came over for a game of dominos. “And I was never scared,” she said. “But in hindsight, when I look back, I know that he was preparing me for anything, so I really appreciate him.”

Now with three successful EPs under her belt, and a nonstop schedule, she’s had to learn how to slow down and breathe. Even finding time to sit uninterrupted and talk about some of her achievements was challenging during a party she held at a dance club, but did her best to remain fully present as music blared in the background. She’s also juggled high profile gigs like her debut appearance on “SNL” and hosting the MTV Europe Music Awards in Hungary.

She meditates about two hours every morning, after learning about the practice from two of her mentors.

“Meditation is really important for me because my life is very chaotic,” said Saweetie. “In order for me to be centered, I have to pray and I have to meditate.”

For Saweetie, the meaning of being an “ICY GRL” has expanded beyond just her brand to her next EP project, called “Icy Season” to come out on Jan. 7, which will be seven songs plus a bonus track.

“When I put out this project, it’s about clarity. It’s about healing. It’s about self-reflection,” said Saweetie.

But she’s also aware that there is a lot of demand, not to mention pressure, for her full-length debut, which she is already calling “Pretty Bitch Music” and will be coming in 2022. To her, “Icy Season” is the caterpillar phase, but her full-length album will be the butterfly emerging.

“A debut album must be clear,” she said. “It’s a blueprint, in a sense. It sets the tone for your career.”

Queen died at 3.10pm meaning most of her family was still travelling to to be with her & missed her last moments

THE death certificate for Queen Elizabeth II shows she died of old age at 3.10pm — meaning most of her family was still travelling to Scotland to be with her and missed her last moments.

The official document released yesterday is light on details — but at the same time fascinating in those it does give.

As well as the 96-year-old’s cause of death, it lists the late monarch’s occupation as “Her Majesty The Queen”.

It describes her marital status as “widowed” and goes on to name her late husband as “His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh”.

The document, released by National Records of Scotland, names the place she died as Balmoral Castle and her usual residence as Windsor Castle.

It even gives the postcodes for both addresses.

There are also sections that ask for the names of the deceased’s parents and their occupations — given as “King George VI” and “Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother”.

The Queen’s daughter Princess Anne is recorded as the person who gave the information about Her Majesty’s death.

But the recorded time of death as 3.10pm was when Princes William, Andrew and Edward, and his wife Sophie Wessex, were all on a jet racing to be by her side.

They did not arrive at Balmoral until around 5pm.

Prince Harry arrived even later, at around 8pm — an hour and a half after the official announcement of the death.

The Queen had suffered serious mobility problems in the year leading up to her death and was forced to pull out of a string of engagements.

Just a few days before she died she was pictured looking frail and with bruises on her right hand when she was photographed with new PM Liz Truss.

She refused to pull out of the traditional “kissing hands” ceremony with Ms Truss when aides and family raised concerns for her condition.

A source claimed Her Majesty had said: “Of course I have to, it’s my job.”

On Thursday, September 8, Buckingham Palace announced at 12.30pm that doctors were concerned for the Queen’s health but that she was “under medical supervision” and “comfortable”.

Within minutes Kensington Palace announced William was heading to Balmoral.

Kate stayed at Windsor for George, Charlotte and Louis’ first day at school.

William and Andrew were seen at around 1.30pm being driven separately from Windsor.

A royal jet had already arrived at RAF Northolt the night before.

Records show it was due to leave for Aberdeen at 1.30pm — but take-off was delayed until 2.39pm.

It eventually landed at Aberdeen at 3.50pm.

Meanwhile, the Sussexes announced that both Harry and Meghan were also going to be travelling to Scotland.

'INAPPROPRIATE'

The Sun understands Harry had “insisted” that Meghan should be allowed to go to Balmoral but his dad Charles told him it was “inappropriate”.

However it quickly emerged that neither Harry nor Meghan had flown on the royal flight and only William, Andrew, Edward and Sophie were aboard.

All four would have been in the air when the Queen died at 3.10pm.

Flight records show Harry eventually left Luton Airport at 5.35pm on a Cessna private jet and landed shortly after the death was officially announced at 6.32pm.

It is thought that the future King Charles, his wife Camilla and Princess Anne were the only family members at Balmoral when the Queen died.

Anne had arrived the previous day, having cut short a sailing trip off the north coast of Scotland.

Then, on the day Her Majesty’s deteriorating condition was announced, both Charles and Camilla pulled out of a series of engagements and meetings.

Charles flew in a helicopter 150 miles from Dumfries House to Balmoral.

He landed at around 11.30am and headed straight to his beloved mother’s bedside.

Anne later said she was “fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest mother’s life”.

Douglas Glass, the Queen’s doctor when she was in Scotland, is named as the medical practitioner who certified Her Majesty’s death.

The advice from coroners is that “old age” can be given as the sole cause of death in some “very limited circumstances”.

It should only be used if the patient was over 80 years of age and the doctor has observed a period of gradual decline and is unaware of any disease or injury that contributed to the death.

The same cause was recorded for Prince Philip when he died in April last year.

The term refers to the “lifetime sum total of injury” to the body’s tissues and organs, it is understood.

THE Queen’s death certificate was signed by a doctor who once saved the Queen Mother when she choked on a fish bone.

NHS GP Douglas Glass, 68, has worked for the monarchy for more than three decades and rescued the elderly royal when she fell ill during a meal at Balmoral in 1993.

The Scot was later appointed as Apothecary to Her Majesty’s Household in a presentation at Buckingham Palace 24 years ago — and is a close pal of King Charles.

He was tasked with certifying Queen Elizabeth’s death from “old age” when the 96-year-old monarch passed away three weeks ago.

The same cause was listed on the papers when Prince Philip died aged 99 in April last year.

Dr Glass runs Braemar Health Clinic just nine miles from Balmoral Castle.

The surgery was named one of the four best in the country in a Scottish Government survey of 130,000 patients last month.

The clinic scored 100 per cent for satisfaction over care levels.

Dr Glass hit the headlines in 2006 when he separated from his wife after discovering she was pregnant by her guitar tutor.
