ALEXANDRIA Ocasio-Cortez has rejected claims she urged protesters to “punch a cop” as Rep. Marjorie Greene ramps up her smear campaign.
The Congresswoman also slammed Candace Owens for branding her 'AOCSmollett' to mock her recent revelations about a sexual assault.9Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez bravely spoke about her sex attack traumaCredit: AP:Associated Press 9Candace Owen has questioned AOC's assaultCredit: Getty Images - Getty 9The outspoken conservative pundit used the hashtag #AOCSmollett, in reference to Jussie SmollettCredit: AP:Associated Press
Conservative pundit Owens tweeted: "The fact that you’re still trying to compare being escorted out of a building (as a precaution) to surviving a sexual assault and attempted murder is why most people think you’re mentally disturbed.
"It’s also the reason society should never just #believewomen. #aocsmollett."
The latter part of Owens' tweet references Jussie Smollett, who currently facing charges after allegedly staging an assault in January 2019.
Lawmaker Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) earlier this week accused Republican critics of "manipulating" the truth as cruel hashtags began trending about her account of the US Capitol insurrection, and how she feared for her life as rioters rampaged in Washington D.C.
These included the trending of hashtag #AlexandriaOcasioSmollet - a comparison to actor Smollett, who claimed to be the victim of a hate crime.
AOC tweeted today: "The reason some GOP are trying to sow false doubt about accounts of the Capitol attack is [because] they know how powerful the testimony really is.9Reps Ocasio-Cortez and Crow slated criticism for speaking out 9But Candace Owens called AOC 'mentally disturbed' for revealing her sexual assault Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she had not told many people that she survived sexual assault
"Each story reveals more details plus the need for accountability."
She also hit back at QAnon Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Greene claimed that AOC had previously encouraged protesters to “punch a cop".
Ocasio-Cortez replied: "Not only did I never make this claim, but I would never, ever do this.
"What Greene is doing pumping this lie to her insurrectionist base is making them feel justified in further violence.
"The prospect of stripping her committees clearly isn’t quelling her. She must be expelled."
Mother Jones explained that Greene is distorting events in 2019 when some 1,000 demonstrators marched in Brooklyn.
They were campaigning against police brutality in NYC's subways.
Some in the crowd, according to the New York Post, chanted, “punch a cop".
Ocasio-Cortez was not among those calling for an attack on police.
At that time, she tweeted: “Ending mass incarceration means challenging a system that jails the poor to free the rich.
"Arresting people who can’t afford a $2.75 [subway] fare makes no one safer and destabilizes our community.
"New Yorkers know that, they’re not having it, and they’re standing up for each other.”
Her message said nothing to encourage attacks on police, pointed out Mother Jones.
Today, CBS asked AOC and Rep Jason Crow, who was also forced to hide as rioters stormed the US Capitol on January 2, 2021, about the smear campaign.Greene has been slammed for comments Dems said threaten the country and could cause violence 9Ocasio-Cortez refuted Greene's claim about punching a cop Owens accused AOC of attempting to fake her own death - a day after the congresswoman said she had 'survived sexual assault'
Crow responded that it was why he and Ocasio-Cortez were appearing on the show.
He said: "We are here is because one of the biggest problems as a nation, as a society, is the stigma that's put on survivors.
"And that prevents survivors from actually coming forward and getting the help that they need - and it's killing people.”
CBS host Gayle King asked whether anyone "behind the scenes of Republicans reaching out to say, 'Boy, this was scary, I’m so sorry this happened to you, I’m so sorry this happened to us?'"
AOC replied: "When it comes to minimising experiences of survivors, that is extremely damaging.
"So many survivors across the country don't get the help they need because they internalise people saying that their trauma isn't big enough to get help."
Urging detractors to 'stop the re-victimization', Crow added: "I was in the gallery on the House floor, trapped for 20 minutes. Most read in NewsBreakingHERE'S DONNYTrump RETURNS to social media with post on Gab account after online exileDONALD'S LEGACYTrump touts 'legacy' & 'military equipment he can't talk about' in new vid'DOUBLE STANDARD'GOP rep SLAMS Pelosi for 'ignoring anti-Semitism' & wants Dems removedWarningMUM’S AGONYBaby crushed to death when man jumps from 17th floor and lands on his pramTOXIC ‘COVER-UP’Lead & arsenic found in BABY FOOD as Walmart slammed for ‘hiding’ toxinsDEATH RIDDLETeen found dead inside her car just days after boyfriend’s body discovered
"But I was also receiving notifications on my phone that the entire Capitol complex had been overrun; that there was a lockdown of the house office buildings.
"I had a staff member who was barricading herself in my office, because we were all receiving notifications that rioters were everywhere and the capitol police were overwhelmed.
"In all of our eyes the situation was chaos."

Golf betting tips and free bets: Three picks for the FedEx St. Jude Invitational including hot 100/1 chance
THE FedEx Cup play-offs start this week in Memphis, and with only three events standing between them and an $18million payday, all the big guns are there - apart from the LIV rebels, of course.
Rory McIlroy is the clear favourite at a best priced 11-1, but that looks way too short in such a competitive field.2Reigning FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay is available at 18/1Credit: GETTY
McIlroy has had a three week break since he let the Open title slip through his grasp, even if it was in the face of a turbo-charged finish from Cameron Smith.
That disappointment is not one McIlroy will get over easily, and he could be a bit rusty. So I’m going to look elsewhere.
World No 1 Scottie Scheffler is second favourite but I still think we may have seen the best of him in the first half of the year.
And at the risk of being forced to eat my words for a second time by Tony Finau, I simply cannot see him making it THREE wins in a row.
PLAY DREAM TEAM NOW FOR FREE WITH £100k IN PRIZE MONEYHot shot: Patrick Cantlay, 18-1.
The reigning FedEx Cup champion continued his stunning run of form by finishing second to Finau at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and this could be the time to strike.
He has now finished T3-T14-T13-T4-T8-T2 in his last six starts, and that elusive first solo win of 2022 cannot be far away. With pay-outs on the top eight this week, he has to be the main pick.
The world No 4 finished just outside the top twenty in this event last year, but that was mostly down to a slow start. And in his current form, he should come hurtling out of the gates this time.2Sam Burns is offered at 33/1 to win the FedEx St. Jude InvitationalCredit: GETTY
FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS - BEST NEW CUSTOMER OFFERSMid price: Sam Burns, 33-1.
You get the impression Burns is never going to be the most consistent player around , with plenty of patchy efforts thrown in alongside his three wins this season.
But it is worth keeping on the right side of him on courses where he has played well in the past - and a play-off defeat here a year ago means this is definitely one of those tracks that suit his eye.
A couple of 64s in the second and final rounds reinforced that point, and I don’t think we have seen the last of the world No 11 on the leaderboard this year.

The Canadian shared second place with Cantlay a couple of weeks ago, and has been knocking on the door almost as regularly.
Pendrith's last five outings have seen him finish T13-T13-T11-T2-T13. And he will turn up in Memphis fresher than most after being forced to miss three months of the season with a rib injury.
I was impressed by the way Pendrith played the final 37 holes of the Wyndham bogey-free last week, and he will want to go further after qualifying for the play-offs for the first time.New customer sign up offers
