President’s recklessness
requires resignation

In 1938. Orson Welles. through his radio program, caused a major panic because his audience believed his false story about the invasion of aliens.

Wednesday, Donald Trump incited a riot in the nations’ Capitol by exhorting his followers to take over the government and to lie about the election results for the presidency.

How can such farfetched recklessness be allowed to continue to create chaos and additional traitorous behavior? Donald Trump must resign.

Some in Congress
culpable in sedition

I propose that all of the Republican senators and House representatives who participated in the charade over the counting of the electoral votes hereafter be designated as “Seditious Republicans.” This identification should be applied whenever they are mentioned either verbally or in print. This will ensure that no one ever forgets that when called upon to either support our country’s democratic principles or the serial liar currently in the White House, they chose the liar.

Even when the electoral vote count ploy fails, we can’t afford to relax. Donald Trump still has more than a week in office to concoct another crisis designed to overturn the election.  And he will find a seditious Republican sycophant to support him.

Trump responsible
for new day of infamy

Like Dec. 7, “A Day of Infamy” as declared by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt after the attack on our nation at Pearl Harbor by Japan, so Jan. 6 will forever be the most vile Day of Infamy due to the horror we witnessed in our nation’s capitol.

But Wednesday, our nation was attacked at the invitation, urging and cheerleading of our President Trump, himself. The whole world witnessed this attack, as we did, and it is our collective shame that we have stood by helplessly for four years with the worst president ever, who played golf while millions of our countrymen and women and children suffered through the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. In their memory, we must demand that Trump resign immediately or face impeachment by unanimous consent of all of Congress.

Bay Area delegation
must apply law to Trump

I am so sorry for the traumatic experiences of Wednesday.  No “first world” country’s government should ever have to be evacuated due to terrorists.

I thank Rep. Anna Eshoo, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Sen. Kamala Harris for resuming their work on counting and validating the Electoral College vote and President-elect Biden’s win.

President Trump incited the violence .  While I look forward to seeing all of the terrorists suffer the consequences of their actions — I plead with my elected officials to ensure that the terrorist-in-chief also suffers consequences.

The law is clear on the consequences for the threatened use of physical force against property or persons. Donald Trump should feel the consequences of his actions.  Rep. Eshoo, Sen. Feinstein and Sen. Harris must show the American people that the law applies to all Americans—not just those of us without the means to pardon.

President has proved
himself unfit for office

The recent actions of the president have shown him lacking in all qualities necessary to lead as the commander-in-chief. He has clearly demonstrated that he is unfit to govern our great nation. We now know that the role as the leader of the free world is well beyond his capabilities.

It is now our duty as Americans to do the right thing to end this failed president’s term in office. It is no longer the president’s responsibility and mandate to lead. He need not do anything more any longer. It must be our solemn decision now to remove him from office in a last effort to save the union from his demented behavior.

President within rights
to question irregularities

Your description of President Trump’s efforts to address questionable conduct in the 2020 election as “treasonable” (“Will GOP support Trump’s treasonous vote manipulation?” Page A6, Jan. 5) is hyperbolic and unfair. He is not a potted plant. As our nation’s leader, he has every right to bring his concerns to the pertinent state government leaders, courts, congressional members, and the vice president.

In addition, almost all of the “nearly 60 court cases” to which you refer were dismissed on procedural grounds (e.g., standing, laches, federalism, etc.), not on the merits of the GOP’s claims of election fraud in those cases.

John Oliver Exposes Fox News’ Unhinged Jeffrey Epstein-Photoshopping Reaction to Trump FBI Raid

On Sunday evening, John Oliver opened the latest edition of Last Week Tonight by addressing—what else?—the FBI’s search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago country club-residence.

“As I’m sure you know by now, on Monday, the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago and seized documents—something Trump reacted to with characteristic restraint,” cracked Oliver.

Yes, Trump released a diva-like statement whining, “These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” with the country club owner adding, “They even broke into my safe!”

“No, not your safe! Yeah, amazingly, the FBI even checks your locked safes when they go through your home with a search warrant,” offered Oliver.

“The search apparently stems from classified and sensitive documents that Trump apparently took from the White House as he left office—with some reportedly containing information related to nuclear weapons. And I’m not going to speculate or jump to conclusions here because there is still so much that we don’t know.”

As Oliver noted, that didn’t stop Republicans and their right-wing media apparatus from speculating wildly about the raid, culminating in Fox News Photoshopping the judge who signed off on the search’s body onto an image of Jeffrey Epstein getting a foot rub from Ghislaine Maxwell on a private jet.

The comic then cautioned, “I would not be so quick to assume that the most cautious AG the U.S. has had for a while took the unprecedented step of sending the FBI to an ex-president’s house if he didn’t think it was absolutely necessary.”
